NGC 7023 — The Iris Nebula

The Iris Nebula over two nights at Jordan Lake, North Carolina — my latest Seestar S30 Pro image.

Equipment: Seestar S30 Pro, broadband IRCUT filter, gain 200.

Capture: October 6–7 and October 7–8, 2026, Big Woods Road area at Jordan Lake.

Integration: 722 × 30 seconds = 6 hours 1 minute.

Processing: Siril with the NaZtronomy Smart Telescope script (1× drizzle), crop, plate solving and SPCC; GraXpert background extraction; PixInsight with BlurXTerminator, NoiseXTerminator, StarXTerminator, MultiscaleAdaptiveStretch and gentle local contrast. Stars processed separately and recombined.

I like the blue center against the surrounding dust. Still learning with each image—constructive feedback welcome!

Veil Nebula Complex (Cygnus Loop)

This wide-field view captures all three major regions of the Veil Nebula, the expanding debris from a supernova explosion that occurred thousands of years ago in Cygnus.

Western Veil (NGC 6960) – The bright arc sweeping across the upper left, often called the Witch's Broom.

Pickering's Triangle – The delicate web of filaments filling the center of the frame and connecting the brighter arcs.

Eastern Veil (NGC 6992/6995) – The brilliant lacework of filaments in the lower right, one of the most striking portions of the remnant. I wanted to frame the Veil as a single interconnected structure rather than separate objects, showing the graceful flow of the expanding shell from the Western Veil, through Pickering's Triangle, to the Eastern Veil. 20 × 300 s (1 h 40 m total integration) 120 mm APO + ASI2600MC Air Color Magic D1 dual-band filter Bortle 3 skies • Moonless night Processed with Siril, GraXpert, and PixInsight Pleasantly surprised by how much faint structure came through in under two hours.
