If I have a physical cartridge for a Switch 1 game (like Pikmin 4) and I want to play it on my Switch 2 does the console need to download anything?

I am trying to see if I should sell my original Switch or hang on to it. I don’t ever want to be in a position where I am dependent on Nintendo’s download services remaining active to play my old games.

Edit: Thank you all for answering and helping me out! It looks like I can play Switch 1 games without a download, but DLC and Switch 2 optimization/update patches will need a download.
