KJP Madras Shirts

Visited the KJP Flagship in Newport today to take a look at their July 4th sale. The madras shirts ended up at $66 after discount. I usually take a large but their large looked like it was sprayed on and the arms are so tight. Ended up going for XL which is still a little snug. The sizing seems to be a key sticking point for reviewers online. Quality feels great.

Alden 986 LHS

Thanks for all of the recommendations. J Press managed to deliver shoes and various other goodies to Boston in time for us leaving. Very impressed with the shoes. The quality isn’t comparable to the Northampton shoes I’m used to but the look is unbeatable!

Alden 986 LHS

I’m touring New England on my honeymoon and I promised myself I’d buy a pair of 986 LHS. Been saving for them and ready to take the plunge. My question before I sink the most I’ve ever spent on shoes is… am I doing the right thing? Any real life issues or the pros and cons of this iconic loafer?

20.33ct GIA Certified Tanzanite

I bought this stone some time ago planning on making either a pendant or a cocktail ring. In the end that hasn’t worked out as it’s just too big for the person I was going to give it to. I sent it to GIA for certification and it all came back great. My question is where would people see its value sitting at? It’s sort of a weird size in that it looks impressive in hand but it’s kind of impractical for modern jewellery.

Any advice is greatly received!

Does anyone have any DVC Sand Dollars?

I’m a Disney dollar collector and I just wondered if anyone has any DVC Sand Dollars they’d part with? They were issued at Old Key West some years ago.

Sposi Novelli Experience

Sposi Novelli was something I’ve known I wanted to do when I got married, it’s always been in my mind that I’d travel to Rome with my wife as it’s a once in a lifetime experience. Reddit was a huge help with tips but I just wanted to give an update.

We travelled to Rome in May 2026 so this is the process currently under Pope Leo.

- We flew out to Rome and stayed at Fornaci Guest House. We would highly recommend staying somewhere close by the Vatican as it’s a very early start and Ubers aren’t always the most reliable. We could see the Vatican from our balcony so it was ideal.

- We collected our tickets from the American college the day before (Tuesday) by the Trevi Fountain. The people there were absolutely delightful, the sisters gave people a run down of what to expect , the chance to take rosary beads to be blessed for your family and also an opportunity to go to confession.

- Get a good nights rest because it is going to be a long long day!

- You’ll be told to get to the queues at 7am, disregard this, if you’re not there by around 05:30am to any of the three entrances (east, west and south entrances to St Peter’s) you’re most likely not going to be in an ideal position when you’re seated.

- Security opens at 7am and it is like an airport you pass through full body scanners and have to place your belongings in a tray, so travel light but don’t forgo things like water it’s a long day in an exposed position so you will get dehydrated.

- Once you’re through security you’ll walk across to a Papal guard on the east side of St Peter’s who will check your marriage licence and ensure you’re dressed correctly, they’ll usher you through the gate and you’ll be directed to a seat on the raised area directly in front of the basilica.

- It will now be around 07:30am so you’ve already been standing for 2 hours and have 2.5hrs to go before the service begins. There are toilets directly behind you and you can take water so take the time to relax and reflect.

- At 10am The Holy Father tours around the square and eventually is driven onto the raised platform and takes his seat under the canopied area, you’ll be to his left.

- The service will run until around 11am when The Holy Father will begin meeting VIPs. These guests will be led single file to meet him. As one row clears the guards then assemble large groups on the steps of St Peter’s and he meets people as a group, so it goes VIP row, Group, repeat. Sposi Novelli are the very last to assemble before he leaves.

- Expect this process to take around 90 minutes meaning it will be around 12:30-13:00 by the time Sposi Novelli are led to their place. At this stage you’ve been here 7 hours so please make sure you stay hydrated as you don’t want to pass out before your special moment.

- A guard will instruct everyone to begin assembling on the steps in the order they arrived. Those who got there first get front row and so on. Now at this stage you’ll see the very worst side of people, shoving, pushing and general degenerate behaviour. We had a situation where a Spanish girl who clearly spoke English pretended not to speak English when told she was in the back row and instead she pushed people out of the way to get to the front. Really poor form.

- Once assembled The Holy Father will come and stand in the centre and have a group photo and then he will make his way along the group shaking hands as he goes. At this point you can kiss his ring and present him with whatever you may have brought. As the first to arrive we were the last on the row which meant that we got to meet him just before he got into the PopeMobile. This is currently how newlyweds are presented to The Holy Father, however, earlier in the year when groups were smaller the Sposi Novelli were led under the canopy to meet him one by one so it really depends on the volume of people there on the day.

- Possibly the most important point to stress is that the service and subsequent meetings are all recorded both on video and by The Holy Fathers photographers. You do not have to worry about having your phone out, you can stay in the moment safe in the knowledge that should you be fortunate enough to meet him you’ll be able to buy photographs afterwards (the guards will hand you a card for the website you visit to view the pics but you’ll have to request video separately from the Vatican Media team). These are €10 each and are of high quality. In total we chose 12 photos so given there were hundreds of us there you can see how well documented it is. The shop to buy them from is on Borgo Pio opposite McDonalds but they’ll all be online, when we went at 17:00 as instructed they didn’t have the photos due to there being a service for the Swiss guards the same day which they, naturally, proposed. We left the next day and when we got home all the photos were uploaded for us to choose from.

- Two weeks before I had emailed Gammarelli to ask to reserve a zucchetta for collection on the Tuesday before the service. We went an were given it in a beautiful silk box. I was then able to present this to The Holy Father who was gracious enough to swap his zucchetta for mine, an incredible moment from a special day I’ll never forget.

In essence you will be told you won’t definitely meet The Holy Father, but the chances are fairly consistently high. The trick is to get there as early as possible and be prepared. You only get one chance at this so don’t sleep in, make sure you have everything you need and most of all BE KIND! Everyone is there for the same reason and there’s no need for the diva behaviour we experienced. You’ll see the very worst and the very best of people in the same day, just breathe and god willing your day will go as smoothly as ours did.
