Built modular, SVG-skinnable analog clocks, battery status & dynamic weather widgets for GNOME Shell (Gridgets fork)
Hey everyone!
I've been using Gridgets on GNOME Shell, but really missed a few key desktop widgets and customization options. Since upstream wasn't ready to merge them yet, I ended up building them in a fork:
- Modular Analog Clock: Fully skinnable by simply dropping an SVG folder into the skins directory (it auto-discovers skins and builds the UI selector dynamically). Supports smooth minute-aligned rendering, separate center cap rendering, and optional second hands.
- Transparent / Floating Mode: Added a toggle to drop the widget container background box, letting the clock float cleanly over the desktop wallpaper.
- Battery Status Widget: Live power & charging stats directly on the desktop grid.
- Enhanced Weather Widget: Live weather metrics with Open-Meteo support and cleaner visual layouts.
You can grab the code, try it out, or drop your own SVG clock faces into it here:

Battery Status & New Weather widgets for Gridgets extension
I've been working on a couple of custom widgets for the Gridgets desktop extension, and I'd love to share them and get some feedback.
1. Battery Status Widget (inspired by Windows 11 style)
- Shows the host PC battery alongside connected Bluetooth devices (headsets, mice, keyboards) with icons and real-time charging status.
- Built on top of
upowerto prevent GJS/UPowerGlib segfaults. - Scales cleanly across Small (4x4), Medium (5x5), and Large (6x6) grid sizes.
2. Forecast Bars Weather Widget
- A compact daily forecast view with horizontal temperature bars and weather condition indicators.
Both widgets fit natively into the Gridgets design language and auto-scale to the grid layout.

Simple notes extension
This is my first gnome project
A modern fork and rewrite based on Romain F. T.'s original Notes extension idea.
I used the colors of windows notes. Unfortunately I couldn't solve the formatting, I don't think cutter can.
So it became a simple notes app.
Hi everyone,
I've just finished a fresh install of Debian 13 (Trixie), and I'm running into a frustrating issue with Google Chrome's GTK theme integration under Wayland.
The issue:
While the system-wide dark mode works for native apps, Chrome's "GTK" theme setting is stuck on a light theme. If I switch to the "Classic" theme, it follows the system's light/dark preference correctly, but the actual GTK integration (which I prefer for consistent title bars and menus) remains bright white.
My Environment:
OS: Debian 13 (Trixie)
Desktop Environment: GNOME (Wayland)
Browser: Google Chrome Stable
GTK Theme: Adwaita-dark/adw-gtk3
What I've tried:
Setting Preferred Ozone Platform to Wayland in chrome://flags.
Running with --force-dark-mode.
Verified that xdg-desktop-portal-gnome is installed and running.
Has anyone found a workaround for Debian 13 to make Chrome correctly pick up the GTK dark theme settings on Wayland? Is there a specific environment variable I should be exporting in my .bashrc or .profile?
Thanks in advance!
