Weird culture at new job
So I moved to Canada many years ago and found a job within the financial services space, the corporate culture was much better than what I had experienced in my home country. At least at my level- I was aware of politics at higher levels but my peers were super helpful, people laughed and joked, trusted each other and built good relationships even if the work itself wasn't the best all the time.
Cut to a new job I joined last year (my second job in Canada so I don't have much to reference except my previous workplace) same industry but the culture shock has been insane.
No one smiles, people don't speak up during team meetings, your own team mates are so focused on their own little silo that they don't bother helping you. I understand that a part of it comes from everyone drowning in their own workload but still the company just feels very inhuman. They're extremely strict about their policies and generally don't treat their employees like adults. Everyone seems morose.
I have stopped smiling at work, it's almost as if that's what they expect.
Has anyone else experienced this?
