Hot take: The Daisy petals are stupid
Why are we asking kindergartners to differentiate between "friendly and helpful" and "considerate and caring"? What is fun about a meeting theme of "responsible for what I say and do"? Why are we expected to devote TEN meetings to the general concept of "be a nice person" when most troops only meet twice a month? And why are the petals designed so that if you don't get to all of them, the vest prominently displays an awkward-looking, half-finished flower?
Don't get me wrong, my troop did the petals, and we found ways to make them fun. But I really wish we'd skipped them and made time for more of the (much more interesting) Daisy badges instead.
