Advice needed: Shelving for collectibles – Ikea vs. Custom-made + "glass front" dile
Hi everyone,
we are planning to upgrade our "collection corner." As you can see in the photo, our current shelves are completely full, and honestly, they are holding on by a thread! :/
We used AI to generate some design ideas for how it should look (second picture). However, we have a dilemma: we want to avoid heavy glass doors. We were thinking about some kind of lightweight alternative – perhaps a clear film or a thin acrylic sheet that could be attached using magnets. Does anyone have experience with this? We’re looking for something to keep the dust off without adding too much weight to the wall.
We are also debating the construction:
1 IKEA solution (including LED lighting): approx. €650
2 **Custom-made by a carpenter: (inc LED)**approx. €1000
Do you think it’s worth paying the extra €350 for a carpenter, or is the IKEA quality sufficient for this purpose? I’d be grateful for any advice or personal experience!
Thanks!
