What makes you stay?

I am on the journey to starting my own business as a Residential Remodel Construction Company. I plan to not only be a successful company, but I want be a successful boss too. I have some ideas to make sure every employee is treated with respect, they are compensated well for their time and overall just taken care of. I understand that finding great carpenters can be difficult so I will need to do what it takes to reach them and meet them in the middle. I've worked for terrible GC's as well as great ones so I will be taking some things out of the playbooks for the do's and don'ts.

But I want to ask everyone one really important question...
What makes you stay?

Looking to leave Olympia and move to Vancouver…

My wife and I are looking at leaving Olympia and moving to Vancouver to be closer to family. I’m a carpenter and she has a HR degree so we will be looking to find work in those areas. I’ll be looking to start my own business as well.

Has anyone made the move? Do you like it? What don’t you like about it?

I know these are broad questions but we are just getting a feel for it and like there seems to be a bigger job pool having Portland being so close.
Any input is greatly appreciated!

First Big Twin Evo - 1991 FXST

Happy to be here! Now time to get this bike dialed for Party At The Pen in Boise Idaho! Should be a nice little rip coming from Western Washington.

This nut just spins and I am not same how to take it out. Obviously there is rust so I just don’t want to rip it out.

Any tips?

University of Washington’s Construction Management program

Hey everyone, new to the sub and would like to speak to some people that have gone through this program. I am a residential carpenter and have been in the trades for a number of years.

Have you found this to be beneficial in your career? I understand it is more commercial focused but I am still very interested as I think it would still be useful in residential construction.

I appreciate anyone’s time in sharing their experience, thank you.
