Is there a max dose of insulin you should take a day?

When my primary first put me on fast acting insulin, he told me to take a base dose of 8 units with breakfast and supper and then to adjust based on a sliding scale at each meal.

I recently saw an endo and she told me to take the fast acting at breakfast, lunch, and dinner plus use the sliding scale. However she recently sent in a new prescription because I was worried I'd run out of insulin adding in the lunch time dose.

Well I picked up the new prescription today and it says to use a max of 30 units a day and I was only given one vial of insulin. Based off my recent usage - this is not going to be enough.

Is this a normal thing to have a max dose of 30 units/day like that?

I sent a message through the online portal to clarify - I was just wondering others opinions based on experience in the meantime.

How often do you take short acting insulin?

So my primary doctor put me on short acting insulin (humalog) about 6 or 7 months ago. The doctor has me using a sliding scale with the insulin at breakfast and supper with a max of 20 units per meal.

A few weeks ago I had my first appointment with an endo who recommended that I try using the Cequr insulin patch since I mentioned that I forget to take my insulin pen with me due to my ADHD.

Well today I met with the Cequr rep so she could give me the run down on how to use it and while we were talking she asked about my insulin regimen and I told her that I was only doing it at breakfast and supper and she seemed surprised and told me I might want to double check with my endo on those instructions.

I sent a message to my endo through the portal to ask, but just thought I'd ask here to see if the twice a day insulin is "normal" or is it more normal to do it at every meal?

My dog snagged her dew claw on the carpet during the zoomies and her dew claw separated from the quick. She walks without a limp, but licks it often and yelps if it gets bumped by anything.

Does this require a vet visit? I searched similar posts on Reddit and Sommer posts say to just watch it for signs of infection, some say it needs a visit to the vet.
