Very irritating and unknown sound coming from both speakers, besides ordinary volume buzz.

I recently moved back home and setup my Hi-Fi system again, I've had it a number of years. I replaced my old speaker wire with new as it didn't reach the speakers. Since being setup I have began to hear this very odd, almost cricket or cicada-like noise coming from (I think) the top part of both of them - I'm wondering if anyone knows where this could stem from? It quietens down a little on other inputs but is there on all whether they are connected or not. Maybe the new wire? - it was pretty cheap and perhaps wasn't setup properly (few lost fibers, rubber part interfering?). I tried removing dust from the speakers and inputs before setting them up, maybe it's dust? Or damage to the actual speakers? But it sounds identical on both. I'm thinking it must be the amp or wire but why all of a sudden. Any help would be great!
