Bicol Regional Flag Design Inspired by the Philippine Flag 🇵🇭

While Bicol (Philippines) currently has no official regional flag, I wanted to create and share a concept of what a flag for my home region could look like. The design aims to serve as a symbol of shared identity, unity, and aspirations, while remaining simple, recognizable, and easy for anyone to draw or sew.

  •  Yellow — joy, resilience, and hospitality of the Bicolano people; inspired by the fiesta of Nuestra Señora de Peñafrancia and the region’s rich culture and abaca industry.
  •  Cross — solidarity and strength; reflects the deep Christian influence in Bicol.
  •  Red — the land, sacrifice, and the Uragon spirit—bravery, determination, and thriving despite hardship.
  •  Blue — the seas and skies surrounding the peninsula; symbolizes peace and liberty.
  •  White — harmony, dignity and equality.
  •  Six small stars — the six provinces: Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate, and Sorsogon.
  •  Central star — the Bicol Region, united in identity and shared destiny.

The use of the Philippine flag’s colors indicates the region’s loyalty to the Philippine republic.

feedback and constructive criticisms are welcome! 😊

What If Filipino Animated Films (Dayo, Urduja, RPG Metanoia) Became Box Office Hits? Would our animation industry be more successful today?

when i saw the success of Indonesia's Jumbo, i honestly feel envy of our neighbors surpass us in terms of domestic animation industry.

back in 2010, i really thought RPG Metanoia would start a golden age for Pinoy Animation. it felt innovative and ambitious at the time, especially for a local animation movie.

but recently i found out it actually flopped at the box office because filipinos prefered Ai-ai delas alas film and other live action comedies.

it established a fear for investors and studios that investing in Filipino animation was too risky and expensive.

the Philippines actually a small window around 2008-2010 where a local animation industry could’ve taken off, but audiences just didn’t support it enough.

im not blaming filipino animators btw. our animators are talented and already work on many foreign productions. what frustrates me is that we never built a strong domestic animation industry of our own.

so i keep thinking:

**what if Urduja,Dayo, and RPG Metanoia became massive box office hits instead of box office flops?

would we have more local animation studios today? more original Filipino animated films and series?

could the philippines have ended up with an animation industry similar to malaysia or indonesia?

or would things still turn out the same because of lack of government support, weak investment, and reliance on outsourcing.

I think if RPG Metanoia had been a box office success, it could’ve even turned into a franchise maybe sequels, spin-offs, or even a TV series like BoBoiBoy.

What if telcos didn’t provide free Facebook Messenger since 2013? How would it change the instant messaging landscape? Sa tingin niyo, mas gagamit ba tayo ng Viber, WhatsApp, Telegram, or SMS pa rin? I think even without it, Messenger would still be #1 but mas malakas sana Viber at WhatsApp.

i've been thinking about this lately because i love collecting CDs and cassette tapes, and honestly, ang hirap maging collector dito.

walang record stores sa area ko, wala ring rental shops, umaasa lang ako sa surplus store para makahanap ng kahit ano.

so im wondering:

what if strong pa rin ang physical media culture natin like in Japan?

  • Filipinos preferred buying CDs, DVDs, cassettes, vinyl instead of piracy or pure streaming
  • independent record stores everywhere selling hi-fi equipment and accessories
  • OPM artists regularly release high-quality physical editions (with booklets, artwork, extras)
  • May culture ng “owning music” instead of just streaming it

Curious lang ako
Do you think this was ever possible for the Philippines? Or talagang inevitable yung shift to streaming + piracy dahil sa economy and accessibility?
