How likely will my girlfriend survive her Tuberculosis?
My girlfriend has lumps above her collarbones, painful and began to produce pus two months ago. She’s been coughing for at least 7 months, dry cough, rarely any phlegm. She also had fever and chills every night that requires using hairdryer to heat herself up under a thick blanket, at least for 6 months. She didn’t get any diagnosis and treatment due to fear of Lymphoma and her not having insurance.
A month ago, she began having a strange headache. It persisted until two weeks ago, where it went away for 2 days, then coming back as the most severe headache that she had in her life, her entire spine also felt sore. She traveled back to her country and got admitted into the hospital within 5 days. In that period, she couldn’t walk properly and started vomiting, and fainted once.
After admitted to the hospital, Spinal Tap returned normal, blood test revealed severely low magnesium, X-ray revealed cloudy lungs and MRI returned temporal lobe encephalitis. She was fine the first few days, severe lethargy but able to speak and joke. Then she began to talk to herself, and no one can understand what she’s speaking on the 5th day. Admitted to the ICU on the 6th day. On the 7th day, she doesn’t recognize me at all. And finally on the 10th day, today, she finally got diagnosed with Pulmonary Tuberculosis, and got quarantined.
How likely can she survive this?
(On a side note, I probably should also get checked out for latent TB right? Since I’ve been living in the same room with her for the past year)
