Parents of teens

What do you do with them over the summer? I’m moving out to Long Beach this weekend and my 14 year old son will be following at the end of June. I will be working during the week, and while I’m hoping my husband and kiddo will take the opportunity to explore, I would like to keep him occupied with some structured activities. Any ideas? I would also like for him to meet some kids his age prior to school starting.
I’ve already sent for information relating to the CULB camps for teens.
He likes to skateboard, do art, and cook. He used to enjoy rock climbing, running, and music - kind of hoping some of that interest returns with a change of scenery.

So many nerdy things!

Wow!! Someone left a lot of really neat stuff in their yard at Institute and Costilla near Memorial Park in downtown Colorado Springs! There’s all kinds of goodies there, I bet it’s stuff they want to get rid of.
You should check it out.

Hello!

I’m moving to Long Beach in the summer with my family, including my 14 year old. I’m looking at the schools around the area, and while LB Poly has a great rating on Great schools (especially compared to his current school) last I was out there the giant fence surrounding the school and the surrounding area has me a little hesitant. Any insights on the safety of the school, the area it’s located?

I’m also looking at the Renaissance high school for the arts, he likes art. Just trying to get some general feedback on the schools I guess. I’m wanting him to go to Los Alamitos high school but moving to the area will increase my commute time. I’ll still do it for the school, but… if anyone can provide their opinions on the other local schools I’d appreciate it.
