Rehoming a mama cat and her 8 kittens in Bellflower, Ca

My son's dad is facing eviction because he hasn't had a steady or reliable income this year. He hurt his knee and shoulder when he fell through a manhole cover. He's had various interviews but no one calls him for a job. We rescued a mama calico cat Sketchy Cheddar Brookie, her 8 month old orange kitten Creamsicle from her first litter, and a second litter of 7 lil angels. I need to find these babies homes because I dont want them to go to a shelter and have them be killed. He has emotional support paperwork for cheddar and Creamsicle. Im in Bellflower, California. Im praying for a miracle. In the meantime please help me find homes for these angels from God.

Has anyone ever successfully stopped this on your block?

I was really patient with people parking in the middle of the street like this for a while, but once one person does it, others join in and I’ve been blocked in a few times and have to honk to hopefully get someone out to move their car.

This is not just short term “I need to unload stuff from the car” behavior — they use the middle as a parking spot overnight.

Has anyone successfully stopped this on their block or made it unpalatable? It doesn’t happen on the other blocks around me.

Reminder: Do not donate to "local" GoFundMe campaigns without CAREFULLY vetting the fundraiser.

The following thread was deleted minutes after I called out the scammer for posting variations of the same story in multiple cities and states: https://www.reddit.com/r/longbeach/comments/1uo5n2i/friend_illegally_detained_by_ice_frustrated_and/

If someone asking for money hides their post history, you can be pretty darn sure they are not for real.

EDIT - Apparently I've just been blocked and others can still see his scam post. For those seeking proof of the scam, here's screenshots of what his post history looks like: https://imgur.com/a/T4rohop

People complaining about fireworks

Were y’all born yesterday? I don’t celebrate the 4th but closed my windows and turned my tv up. Damn this Reddit is full of transplants that love to complain about Long Beach.

Friend illegally detained by ICE. Frustrated and Angry.

My name is Michael Bollinger, owner of Bollinger Green landscaping. This past Tuesday, my friend of nearly a decade, Raymundo, was detained by ICE after being trailed by two black unmarked SUVs near the ARCO on Artesia Blvd in Gardena. I am absolutely furious and exhausted by this, he is legally present in the States and has valid work authorization, but the system has completely failed him.

His wife and two kids (ages 13 and 9) back in Mexico depend entirely on his income to survive, especially with the severe safety issues in their hometown right now.
They are terrified, and I am the only person they have to handle this nightmare.

I've already paid the retainer for an immigration lawyer and dipped into my savings to handle his month's rent, but the total legal costs are just too steep for me to carry alone. I desperately need help raising funds so he can have a fighting chance. If you can contribute anything at, it would mean the world.

Zaferia Warzone

Zaferia is absolutely fucking horrendous tonight in terms of all the fireworks going on. I feel horrible for all of the pets in our neighborhoods.

Pet Escape

I moved to LB, around 6th & Orizaba, last year. I realized on the 4th that I have never lived somewhere where people light off fireworks on the street like that since I’ve had pets. Found out my younger pup absolutely hates them. Like, he goes catatonic and starts panting excessively and won’t leave my side. It’s a bummer.

I’m not even mad at anyone - I used to light off fireworks outside my home when I was a kid too, although, like weed, it’s all gotten much stronger. These things are like mini-bombs. But again, have your fun, it’s all good.

Last year I drove around with the pups looking for a place to chill in the car for a few hours, and eventually parked along the strip of businesses across from the airport on Spring, and it was relatively peaceful. Eventually the pups were able to chill and I used it as an excuse to scroll on my phone.

This year I’m back, and I downloaded Idiocracy and am watching that. Next year, we should do a meetup for people in a similar situation.

Gusto Bread has ruined me

I’ve read and heard all the wonderful things about Gusto Bread for a while. I see the long line that always discourages me. I witnessed the BriAd Photogate in real time. It’s been on my list of places to go for a while.

I finally walked over yesterday.

I selected three pastries.

My diet and my body are forever ruined. That small bag of pastries was annihilated by the end of day.

How. How does Gusto Bread make such amazing things? So savory, perfect balance of sweetness and texture.

I can’t stop thinking about Gusto Bread now. I must visit again.

Recommendations are welcome.

Looking for women interested in learning basketball!

Edit: I’ve created a Discord server to coordinate our first meetup! Please DM me for the link, thanks!

Hey there! 29F here and I’ve been wanting to get a small group of women together to learn and play basketball in a fun, supportive, and low-pressure environment. I tried searching online for local women’s leagues but didn’t find any close by, so I thought I’d reach out here to see if others might be interested in starting something casual.

This is specifically for women, all skill levels welcome. I only have experience shooting hoops, but would love it if we can eventually get enough people to play 5v5. The goal is to create a safe space where we can learn, encourage each other, and have a great time!

I’m hoping to have this be a weekly meetup. If you’re interested or know someone who might be, let me know! Looking forward to connecting with you all!

‘Fun police’: LBPD cracking down on drinking, noise at Horny Corner on 4th of July

Forgot to post yesterday, but got more info on the new security measures at Horny Corner:

For decades, Horny Corner has been the unofficial party zone for Long Beach locals and visitors alike, especially on summer holidays like the Fourth of July. The beach is often lined with pop-up tents and people drinking out of red Solo cups.

But this year, the Long Beach Police Department is cracking down on public consumption of alcohol and other prohibited activities, it said Thursday.

Friday morning, crews were seen setting up vehicle barriers and barricades at all entry points to Bay Shore Avenue, including at 54th Place, First Street, Division Street and Second Street. Visitors hoping to catch some rays and join in the festivities Saturday can only enter the area at Second Street and Ocean Boulevard, according to department spokesperson Eric Stachura.

“Private security, assisted by LBPD personnel, will staff the entrances to the beach area and conduct bag searches,” Stachura told the Watchdog in an email Friday. “All bags and coolers will be checked for prohibited items and prohibited items, including fireworks [which are illegal throughout the city], will not be allowed into the area.

“Anyone found in possession of prohibited items will not be allowed into the area,” Stachura added.
Alcohol is also prohibited on all Long Beach beaches, Stachura said, adding that if police or security catch people drinking "enforcement action will be taken.”

Open flame grills and portable barbecues are also not allowed, along with urinating or deficating in public, according to LBPD’s post.

The department is also cracking down on noise, including “loud parties and amplified music,” according to Stachura. When asked who determines what is considered “too loud,” Stachura said officers will make the assessment and dole out whatever enforcement action is applicable.

Last year, the department deployed a “large number of officers” and utilized vehicle barriers around the area, Stachura said. One resident who has lived adjacent to Horny Corner for eight years but declined to give his name told the Watchdog Friday that officers had a difficult time with crowd control last year and noted that more people are expected than usual, likely due to the cancellation of the popular Big Bang on the Bay fireworks show.

The barriers and bag checks are a new safety measure this year, Stachura said. Additionally, the department, with coordination with the Long Beach Fire Department, will keep track of the crowd size and will cut off entry once “capacity” is reached. It is unclear, however, what capacity is at Horny Corner.

“We anticipate the Bayshore beach area will reach capacity,” Stachura said, “so we encourage people to have alternative plans and locations to celebrate the holiday in the event they are denied entry.”

Can my Apt Owner deny my Domestic Partner to join the unit as an OCCUPANT?

My unit is rent controlled. My partner is a recent university graduate, but his house burnt down in Altadena so he hasn’t had a stable place since he got back from college. I also see other occupants in the building who are unemployed spouses.

With the Domestic Partner license, even if he has no income, could his move-in be guaranteed under the law? I believe marital status is a protected class?

I’ve never missed a payment. I’m always on time. I’m just laid-off right now. We’re both looking for work.

Where do you buy your oranges? Can’t find a good one

I was at Ralph’s yesterday and they had them on sale for $1 a pound… I tried eating a few but they all taste terrible. It’s been like this all year no matter which grocery store I go to. The previous year had such good oranges 😭

Butchers who do interesting sausage

Looking around the Long Beach area for any butchers who do something more than just Italian sausage and bratwurst.

Up in LA at third and Fairfax in the farmers market there, there’s a place called Huntington Meats and they always have at least six or seven different crazy interesting sausages.

Anyway, I miss that and I would love to try to find a place down here that does something similar.
