“Truckers in California are asking the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to subsidize the high costs of owning and operating zero-emission big rigs. Drivers of electric-powered rigs say they can’t compete with diesel-powered rivals even as fuel prices surge to record highs.
The ports are considering paying truckers $60 each time they pick up or drop off containers with a zero-emission vehicle, up to a maximum $36,000 per truck per year, over the next three years. The boards of the two ports are expected to vote on the proposal in the coming months.”

Hey guys, long story short there was a death in the family and they were cremated with the wish to be spread off the coast of California. My buddies and I are making a trip out of it for later this month but it’s difficult to really plan how we can spread the ashes with all the stipulations California has in place. We have seen some services that will boat you out the 3 miles and conduct a ceremony but they are $1,000+ which is just out of the budget unfortunately. Any ideas on how to best proceed?

To parents of young kiddos, what has your experience been with your kid’s elementary school?
My kiddo is starting kindergarten next school year, and I’m looking to see what school would be a good fit. I’m from the paramount area but will be working in downtown Long Beach. I’m thinking of enrolling him close to my work instead of home.
On my daily commute I'm averaging about 2-4 red light runners. I'm not even counting the borderline yellow lights, just straight RED. And people wonder why we're averaging a traffic fatality a week here.
Speed cameras aren't a fix for this.
I just had a cockroach crawl across my face while sitting on my patio. I know cockroaches are an issue in Long Beach. I’ve seen plenty on the ground out and about. How can I keep them off my patio, my outdoor furniture and most importantly ME?
Edit: I’m also currently totally freaking out. So tips on how to calm down appreciated too. My husband says ripping my face off is not an option.

I’m 23 not in school I just work I don’t really go out which is the problem but it’s just so hard to make friends that are genuine. I tried Bumbble friends but I just didn’t have any luck on that. But I hope that I find my village soon I don’t feel lonely I learned to be okay in my own company but it would be nice to have someone to go get coffee with sometimes and talk about life :,) I am no contact with almost all of my family so most days I just stay home holidays hit hard. not giving up hope. Making friends as an adult is really difficult.

I’m sorry if this is a dumb question but I’m curious. I live in the more inland part of LB and I’m looking for relief. I also haven’t been by Belmont pier in a while, which used to be one of the main places I’d go to cool off. Is it any better over there?
Just killed a fat german roach that was crawling over my freshly cleaned dishes. I really want to move out of the roach motel I’ve been living in the last few years, but it seems like so many other buildings have roaches too. The last place I toured didn’t even have the decency to remove the dead roach from the kitchen counter before I came over. It’s really starting to affect my mental health. I’ve already told my landlord multiple times, and sent a complaint to the city’s health dept. I’ve been putting out advion gel and boric acid dust and gentrol for the last few years and even sealed all the baseboards with caulk and they still somehow keep finding their way into my unit. At this point I’m done fighting and I just want to leave. I’m just worried about spending a bunch of money on moving all to end up back in the same situation. Can anyone recommend a property management group that is on top of pest control, or some clean roach free buildings? Or should I go nuclear and move to somewhere that snows because every single place I’ve ever lived at in LB has had a roach problem to some degree. This weather has been making everything worse, now I see the german ones walking around on the sidewalk like they pay taxes.
Has anyone seen one of these at a local gym? I’ve never used one before so I wanted to try it out. I was thinking of asking my gym to add one but I don’t want to request it, they get it, and I hate it. Also might be a long shot for them to be able to get it.
