Sprite stacking experimentation

It turns out that this method of 3D effect is quite easy in Pivot. The vehicle is made from 12 sprite layers stacked on top of each other at slightly different positions. I downloaded the sprites from here. You could also just make the layers in the figure builder. When they all rotate together you get a 3D effect without having to make the figure from each angle. In Pivot you can easily rotate them all at once using multi-select and drag with Alt+Ctrl+Z. This animation uses 13 figure types, including the track and sky, and 23 keyframes.

Leaf burn or fungus?

First is a Bird Cherry. Second is a Hornbeam. We've had a hot and dry period here in Germany and these potted trees have been in full sun and watered twice a day. The substrate is a granular molar clay and lava mix covered with live moss to help retain moisture.

German course update, Learn new words

Thanks Duolingo for listening to the many people who were annoyed at the recent course updates who encountered many words they hadn't been taught. The new stages to teach those words seems like a reasonable fix. It's just a shame it wasn't rolled out at the same time as the course updates.

Elm, Hawthorn, Spindle, Blackthorn, Blackthorn. Collected in Germany and one in France. Most were sweated in bags but have now been removed or kept in half open bags.

There are plenty of new shoots in favourable positions for future styling. Only the last Blackthorn hasn't budded out, but I haven't completely given up on it. I've found that Blackthorn chopped to a stump often bud out late. This one is still kept in a fully sealed bag.

You can also see the frames I build to keep the bags in place and stop the plastic touching the tree. Like a mini greenhouse for each tree.

Last year's trees are also doing well and are now developing new thick leaders and branch structure (I may do a separate post). I'm slowly rebuilding a collection after selling the trees I had in the UK and taking a 2 year break.
