We need more on street EV charging for people without driveways

i want to see a lot more reliable on-street ev charging in residential neighbourhoods.

a lot of us live in older suburbs where off-street parking isn’t an option. mount cook, aro valley, newtown etc. hundreds park on the street every night. owning an ev in these areas is possible, but it’s more hassle than it needs to be.

i’m not thinking rows of rapid chargers, just basic 7 kw ac chargers built into existing streets, lamp posts, power poles or regular car park spaces so people can plug in overnight. plenty of european cities are already doing this.

This is the first LIFX device I've ever given up on

I've got around 20 LIFX devices and have always managed to bring them back from whatever problem they've developed.

This Z Strip suddenly went offline. It can still be discovered, but won't claim. I've factory reset it more times than I can count, checked my network, and even had one attempt where it claimed successfully... only to go offline again about 5 seconds later. Its about 2 years old.

I don't usually lose to tech, but I think this one has beaten me.

Before I replace it, has anyone actually recovered a Z Strip that behaves like this, or am I looking at a failed controller?

bus terminals not working, do you get off or stay on?

had apple pay, debit and credit all fail on a bus this afternoon “please pay the driver” and the driver told me to get off. later on another bus my partner’s phone payment also failed but the driver let him stay on.

what’s actually supposed to happen if the terminals aren’t working properly but you’re clearly trying to pay? we’re new to this.

EDIT: happened again this morning, had to tag on at the rear which worked. basically, it’s a mess.

Big thanks to this sub - officially an EV owner

someone here posted the article about the discounted Atto 3s a few days ago, which got me interested and we ended up buying one today. thanks to everyone in this sub - the discussions and advice genuinely helped.

interesting charging idea for people without driveways

https://www.kerbocharge.com/

The UK is rolling out covered footpath cable channels that let people safely charge street-parked EVs from a home charger, and local councils there seem to be adopting them quickly. Do you think something like this would work in NZ cities? I’m in the market but without off-street parking or home charging it still feels pretty impractical for me in Wellington.

still sold anywhere or are we just pretending inferior ‘fruit toast’ is acceptable now?
