The search for new flat shoes!

I like this community and I feel we have lots of shred philosophy when it comes to bikes. Given the demise of the Specialized 2FO and a discovered allergy to some of the chemicals/materials used in making of the shoes I need to find something else.

I haven’t owned a pair of 5.10 in 10 years as they always seemed to fall apart at the seams in about a year. I’m willing to try them again. Here is my current shortlist, if you have any suggestions or recommendations let me know.

Current shoe is the 2FO in 45cm. My favorite normal shoes are Brooks in 11.5.

My current list:

Fox Union

Shimano GFx00

5.10 Trailcross

Crankbrothers Stamp Trail

Lost my first rear derailleur since I started riding 20 years ago. I'm blaming MEATDrew!

Welp, it happened today on a PR run down a section of trail. Its the best I have felt on that section and it was because of a simple change that I made. I have been feeling like I needed to adjust my the roll of my Stooge Moto bars, and it just happened that I was reading a MeatEngines post about how MEATDrew rolled his bar back to match his fork angle. I did the same and all I can say is I didn't think it would make that big of a difference. It felt great until I heard myself hit a stick and then my pedals stopped working. Fortunately, I have an XT 8130 Linkglide sitting in a box in my office. Ripped the RD and chain off and coasted down the trail and got picked up.

Kettlebell Progression and Adjustable Bells

Good evening,

I have a couple of questions regarding how to progress in weight and if an adjustable bell like the bells of steel one feel ”normal”.

I just started doing the Armor Building formula with a 30lb bell. When I purchased that one I got a second one free. So I’m planning to do the ABF plan with a single bell and then my next cycle do double 30s. So here are my questions:

  1. Should I start planning to go to a single 16kg after the doubles or jump to a 24kg?

  2. Not a big deal if I buy the 12-32kg bell as Incould go a range of sizes to progress. I’m concerned the center of weight may be a little off. Does it feel off? If so is it super noticeable? Do you feel it impacts the workouts?

Drivetrain Advice

ok, I trust most of the opinions in this sub so I have some question. I’m a larger rider at 270lbs on a Roscoe. I have just put on my third chain, changing them right at the 0.05 mark. I’m running the Deore 6100 12spd with a Deore 6100 crank. I don’t recall replacing my 9spd and 10spd chains this frequently, but I’m also actually training and riding more than ever.

When should I consider purchasing a new cassette and/or chainring? I have read every third chain, but it’s hard to tell with a 12spd cassette when it’s getting worn to my untrained eye.

If I have to replace the chainring, chain, and cassette the next go around, should I consider going with the new new XT Linkglide. I have been thinking about it for a while, loosing the 10t isn’t a big deal to me it’s an MTB. I would have to change my freehub, but alas my I9 1/1 freehub bearings are on the way out. I noticed that when I was servicing the paws. Hub bearings are in great shape.

I have no Linkglide experience but assuming any 11 or 12spd chainring will work.

I know the popular answer here would just be to go single speed. Not ready for that just yet, but I’ve been looking hard at the Stooges.

Anyone else noticing issues? Was Meatengines upgraded recently or was it an Apple Update?
