Photo of Les’s Neve/API preamps
I’ve seen a few people ask for photos of Claypool’s rig. This was shot last night at the July 4th Napa show. I couldn’t see his pedals but got a pretty clear view of the Neve/API preamps.

I snapped a photo at one of the shows on their most recent tour with John’s kit reflecting in his glasses. I thought it was a neat concept for a logo. Here’s what I came up with.
Note: AI helped me execute the concept. I know that’ll bug some people but I can’t draw worth a damn.
I’ve wanted a Les Paul for the longest time. I always had some form of double humbucker guitar so I always told myself I didn’t need one. And the cost was always a factor. Then you’d read about tuning issues, or QC issues, etc etc. I tried a PRS 594 thinking it was the “Better Les Paul” but it just never scratched that itch. Fine guitars, don’t get me wrong, but they just don’t have the sound.
Finally, a couple weekends ago, I was hanging out at Parkway Music in Clifton Park NY and spotted this. There was just something about the looks that reeled me in instantly. It wasn’t too heavy either, and was acoustically very loud. After demoing it with an amp, it was pretty clear I had finally found my Les Paul. It’s a 2025 Murphy Lab Light Aged 1959 in Royal Teaburst.
Sure, I maybe jumped into the deep end of the pool but I’m at the point in my life where I’ve accepted the idiom “buy nice or buy twice”.
