Why is the browser version so slow?

My internet and laptop work fine. My iPad works just fine. I'm not making anything complicated, but I don't have access to the apps, so I use PowerPoint in Chrome.

Why is it so slow??? It feels like it barely works. I want to use canva, but for work, I work with someone who only uses PowerPoint.

I wanted to test, and I made the same thing in canva with more free resources in half the time.

Help with lesson plan

Hello everyone.

I need help making a lesson plan. I have a particularly not so nice JTE. I have not taught with her yet, but I've only heard bad things. Anyway this will be my first lesson with her.

She asked I prep for ABC Let's try 3rd grade lesson. I gave her my ideas, and she hated everything and said it was all boring (bingo, telephone game, keeping it simple, ya know) I think she went to complain about me to my company afterwards but anyways..

She wants me to make it a cultural experience and is asking I teach ABCs the American way. I never taught actual school children back home, and if I did, I wouldn't be at this crappy job, but I can't really tell her that sooo. She was upset when I sang to her ABCs and it wasn't really much different from how the song is here??? I'm not sure what she expects.

She wants a very American abcs worksheet and a very American abcs song.

I was going to start of with abcs and reviewing phonics. That's the only part she liked. We have an idea for a game. I really just wanted to do a simple telephone game, but she wants me to change it to a gesture telephone game where the 3rd grade students spell out the words with their body....

Anyway, any ideas on how the lesson should flow??? Make it super...American??

I've taught before for 2 years, and usually, if I'm T1, they let me do whatever I want. The audacity to ask me to plan then say no to everything 🤣

Just some support please

I don't want to give too much away for privacy reasons, but my assignment is... I don't really know how anyone is expected to do this.

6 classes almost every day, assigned schools on top of some more additional schools as well. I don't know when I'll have time to prep for classes. I'll have to do it out of working hours. I can't think of any other way bc they are expecting I used the breaks to play with the children.

My previous assignment broke me. This one is making me wake up in cold sweats a couple of times a night, so I haven't been able to sleep well..

I'm so tired. I've applied to other places but I've told my husband if I can't find anything by December I have to go home bc I'm scared for my mental.

I maybe want to go on medical leave due to stress, but idk where I'd go to get that my Japanese isn't good.. if anyone has any experience or recommendations please..

Childrens book illustrators with style similar to mine?

I love working in black ink, pencil, big messy calligraphy...

Are there any illustrators that have a similar style so I can study their work?

Thank you!

Also, any sketchbooks that don't wrinkle from heavy black ink recommendations are appreciated..

How long were you an ALT and why did you leave?

Quit to take some time off, but I'm going back to replace someone who left during the summer.

3 schools and several other random schools for one-time visits to teach English with a bunch of other teachers. A lot of said schools are an 1hr+ away from my apartment. The pay isn't good, so I think after this I'll be done.

I've done this for 2 years and I think that's more than anyone should stay doing this kind of job.

So maybe I'll be taking a solo trip home if I don't find an eikaiwa job after March (I'm married, but he's very NIPPON #1 soooo)

Also, with PR changes, I think maybe it's a waste of time to try to stay here permanently unless you marry a Japanese or someone with PR already. But maybe I'm misinformed 🤷‍♀️

Anyway, TLDR, I'm curious how long many of you were ALTs and why you stopped. Anything you miss or don't miss about the job?

Prayer cards in Kyoto

Hello, I live in Kyoto, and I am looking for prayer cards similar to my Saint Anthony prayer card.

These are relatively easy to get back in my home country as well as rosaries. My church back home had a small store where they sold prayer cards, rosaries, candles, and more.

I am wondering if there is anything similar in Kyoto.

Thank you.

Problems with visa change, eikaiwa, and job offer from dispatch

For context, I am currently on an instructor visa. I live in Japan. I've been an ALT before but quit bc mental health.

So, I was offered an eikaiwa position on May 31st and accepted. There's been delays after delays, and there is no word on when I will start the visa changing process. I have training starting in September. I have signed the contract.

I got an offer by a dispatch company. I'd start after summer break. I'm one ALT to 3 schools. No visa change is necessary. I'm one hour away from all schools. It's one school a day.

I want the eikaiwa bc closer and better pay, but they have been unreliable, and I'm not sure if I can even start training unless my visa is changed..

I also don't want a repeat of my ALT situation that caused me to quit. Living an hour away waking up at 5 am, sardine train, lesson planning T1 for almost all grade levels at all my schools for 180,000 a month.

Dispatch wants an answer to the offer by tomorrow morning.

Need some serious advice.

I had to sell a beloved cover of mine..

For context, I'm in a really, really tough spot rn. I need money QUICK, and I kinda sold everything else that I know would have value.

I was going to use this cover for the new year.. I think it's a little more than the cover bc when I bought it, I was in a much better place financially. I think selling it reminded me that these past 2 years have been getting progressively worse, and I've hit rock bottom. Without going into too much detail, I feel a bit trapped in the situation that I'm in due to my partner and his VERY STUBBORN choice in living in a country that I just can not afford and mentally has done quite a number on me..

Anyway, I made enough money to cover my half of rent for this month.

Sorry for the somber post. But I'm happy that my cover will make someone happy and I hope one day I can be happy again too.

I still have 2 covers that I love very much, and I'm excited to use them next year. I don't plan on participating in buying anything for the new releases coming up, but if there's anything with a horse slapped on it, I'm screwed 🥲🥲 (fully regret not getting the horses hon btww) haha I'll find a way loll

Just to be clear, I did not buy this cover to resell. I don't do scalping and all that!

Having trouble finding the motivation to study while depressed

Anyone in a similar boat? In a very tough spot of my life rn, and I'm having trouble keeping up with my daily language study.

I'm not burnt out, and once I get into the groove, I can go for about 2 or 3 hours. But today, I was very disappointed in myself. I could only bring myself to do my chores today and doom scroll..

I'm just losing the will to do anything because what's the point..

Sorry for the depressing post. I'm just trying my best, and I'm having trouble studying, keeping up with family and friends, and being a helpful wife.

These past 2 years have been really bad.. problems with marriage and career.

I live in Japan. My husband wants to stay forever, but I have this feeling deep inside that that's not right. I miss my family so much. I've had to sacrifice a lot.. I'm going absolutely boonkers bananas.

What can you see about relationships or anything really? Does anything show that I have a hard time letting go? Any signs of what career suits me best? I've had a hard time sticking to jobs and have been job hoping ALOT...

Career and marriage?

28f. Dominate hand is right. Married. No kids. Struggling with marriage and career.

Don't know if I should leave the country I'm in and go back to my family to heal. I tend to give up easily...
