why is my dog peeing in the house all of a sudden?
we have a 5 year old cavalier king charles spaniel who has been perfectly house trained for years. Not a single accident since she was about 8 months old. Until three weeks ago, when she suddenly started peeing in the house with no warning.
What's bothering me is the pattern. It's not happening when we're gone all day, it's happening when I'm literally IN the house with her. Last Tuesday I came downstairs from folding laundry and there was a puddle on the kitchen floor, 30 minutes after she'd been outside. Last night she peed on the living room rug while my husband was sitting on the couch right there.
Nothing about her routine has changed. Same food, same schedule, same walks. The only differences are a new robot vacuum (could that be stressing her out??) and my daughter's friend's cat visited for a weekend, but the peeing started before that.
there's no visible blood in the urine, water intake is normal, appetite and energy are fine, no obvious pain. She seems almost embarrassed when it happens which honestly makes it worse.
I've booked a vet appointment for next Wednesday but in the meantime I'm sitting here wondering what to do. For people who've had a previously house trained dog suddenly start having accidents, what ended up being the actual cause? Trying to figure out if why is my dog peeing in the house is usually something simple like a UTI or if I should be bracing myself for something bigger...
