i’m upset
so a friend of a friend decided to impulse get 2 hermit crabs at a surf shop while at the beach the other day. and this is his tank…
she’s tried being nice while educating him, and she’s sent him some tiktok’s and just general information and he said he didn’t know any of what she was telling him and that he only read three things and it said nothing about any of what she was telling him. and i’m extremely upset. not to sound like a hermit crab warrior or whatever, but it’s just the idea that he went with it because he had no impulse control.
he has two hermit crabs in this traveling lizard tank, and he’s planning on getting another sometime soon. he didn’t know about them needing space to molt, and whatever that sheet is in the back (i’m assuming a climbing wall…?) isn’t real and i heard some people online and on tiktok said it smells like chemicals..? obviously i don’t know if that’s true or not but im just very upset.
this is also coming from the guy who got a 50 gallon fish tank for one of his birthdays a bit ago and consistently kept killing his fish because of his lack of knowledge. he did constant water changes which meant the tank never could balance, and he had no natural decorations, it was all plastic and pebble rock. he would probably go to petsmart or something like 5 times a week at “his peak” fish tank having time.
i know that i don’t have much power to stop him but im hoping him seeing people criticize his set up will hopefully motivate him…? so if anyone has any suggestions or advice or critiques for him please go ahead and say them.
-update 1: super quick i know. so he’s saying now that he “doesn’t intend on abusing them. i’m just very new to it. they’re very cute”. which obviously doesn’t negate the fact that even though they’ve only been in that tank for maybe a full day, it’s not a good habitat for them and may be stressing them out to some extent already.
