lowell historic board discussion re: draper's HCID plans

Biggest takeaways from the historic board meeting with Draper's architects, to me, are:

  1. They know / acknowledge that their roadway next to the NPS canal walk will be used as a pedestrian cut-through whether they want it to be one or not. (good!)
  2. The facility will have a private second floor cafe (or maybe cafeteria?) on-site. Not great news for the trickle down effects we are assured will come with the build out.
  3. The building perimeter will be surrounded by an 8' high wrought iron security fence. The board recognized they don't want the place to feel like a monolith but that...does not sound welcoming to me.
  4. They were light on details on the back facade of the building that faces Market Mills - talked reassuringly on aesthetics but it is noise and building exhaust and freight concerns that are the question - we don't even know how many manufacturing shifts there will be.

Here's the video. I queued it up.

lrta fare free program ends june 30th

bus fare collection starts up again in july. the fare free program was paid for by a 1.1 million dollar grant from the state and has not so far been renewed.

seems that the lrta wouldn’t generate a million dollars in fares in a year so im curious how that budgeting works? will need to look.

regardless: sucks to lose a benefit.
