Data Center Organizer Meeting

Hey folks,

In the wake of the City Hall public forum on the Markley Data Center and zoning for data centers, a follow-up organizer meeting will be taking place on July 19th.

In recent months, our people have increasingly experienced the pollution, exploitation, and the dubious practices of Markley, and have identified the complicity of our city council for their negligence of the moratorium.

Our community has reached a critical moment where we need to organize and unify our efforts to holding our city accountable, making concrete demands, and presenting real consequences if our collective needs aren’t met.

Fireworks by neighborhood

Watched fireworks from roof of a building downtown. I could see literally dozens of serious and professional looking fireworks displays from different towns. However in addition to many far off towns, it appeared Lowell had a serious display happening in each neighborhood. Are there little “fireworks crews” which operate out of each neighborhood? Was this a heavy year for explosions because of the 200th/250th celebration? Tell me about Lowell fireworks culture.

Music Studio & Artist!

Good evening to anyone who reads this!

First I want to thank everyone who contributes and to this sub. I moved to Lowell about three years ago and this sub has been really helpful.

I’m finally in a place where I’m getting back into my hobby of making music. Are there any good music studios around? Also, are there any artist in Lowell? How can I find some artist to collaborate with?

Thank you for anyone who reads this!

Shabu Shack

Can anyone confirm if this place is open or not? Used to go a couple years back but then they closed and now it’s status is in limbo for me. I’ve heard a lot of people say it’s open again and want to confirm. Thanks!

national grid electric bill is outrageous

i live with 4 roommates in a 4 bedroom home on the dracut line. there’s been issues with our bill - last summer it was high, even was $250 during the winter.

we have one ac in my bedroom because my roommates refuse to have one due to the bill. we don’t have gas, and our heat uses oil. we’re pretty good at conserving energy, and only use our ac at night on low, and it was the cheapest one we found at walmart. i feel like this is ridiculous but my roommates refuse to listen (especially the account owner)

Visiting 10th and 11th. Any good goth, 80s, industrial, weird karaoke in the area?

Hey all. Wife and I used to live in RI and MA 20 years ago and are now moving back. We're looking at apartments on the 11th. Anything going on from the subject line that weekend that you can recommend?

Thanks.

We know certain "weird" things are less frequent.

New animation pilot! (Suggestive Content)

My friend asked me to do some sharing because they hate using socials lol. Anyways, Nyoomish (animator) just released their debut published pilot of the animation they did for their graduation project at MassArt!! It’d mean the world if you’d check it out. ⚠️it has suggestive content and one explicit doodle but this is the censored version! (The uncensored one will be up on Newgrounds at some point this week)
P.S: I’m also the VA for the Cupid character :)

Where are the 30 year old DINKS?

Hello,

As my title says, where are the 30 year old DINKS( dual income, no kids??

I guess I expected Lowell to feel more like a city in terms of the age of the people if that makes sense. I mean, I know Lowell is a city, but it feels like I moved to a suburb( in some ways, the constant sound of ambulances, sirens, etc remind me that I am in a busy city). I would have expected this if we ended up in Tewksbury or Billerica, but I thought Lowell would have more young people being a city and all.

For context,

I used to live in the Boston area, and then my husband and I bought a house in Lowell because it’s really one of the only towns/cities we could afford to buy something in eastern-northern Massachusetts( where both our families live).Plus it’s not too far from my husbands job. We have been here 2 years, and I feel like it’s been difficult to meet other people our age. I am 30, and my husband is 31. We don’t have kids ( we want to in the future, but def aren’t ready for at least a couple years). I’ve joined a number of community things, such as a softball league, Pilates studio, etc. and every time I do, I meet lovely lovely people, but it’s mostly women in their like 40s to 50s, with grown up children. Again, I’ve met a lot of lovely people, but it would be nice to meet some people my age

I feel like I messed up leaving Boston, it’s been a couple years and this feeling hasn’t gone away. Not to mention I work in the Boston area and all my coworker friends always want to hang out in Boston so I end up spending a lot of time on the highway driving back and forth. I am beginning to question if maybe we should sell and go back to renting closer to the city ??
