Has anyone else noticed that downtown and the area surrounding downtown has been smelling really bad for the past week or so? Anyone know what it could be and why?

The other day I went to a Starbucks downtown in my city that I don’t visit too often and used my numbers. When I gave the barista my numbers, she asked to see a form of ID to make sure the name on my ID matched the name that came up on her screen.
I was a little confused since never in my entire 1 year of working at starbucks have I ever been asked for an ID when using my numbers, so I asked if this was a new policy. She told me it wasn’t and said partners are and have always been required to show ID when using their numbers. Mind you, I’ve been to this same Starbucks a handful of times before and have never been asked for an ID, and have never been asked at any other Starbucks either. Is this actually standard Starbucks policy, and other stores just don’t enforce it? Or was this lady just on some power trip? I’m just curious because this was the first time it’s ever happened to me.
