How are people creating custom apps/widgets for the BUSY Bar?

I’ve seen several examples of people running custom apps on the BUSY Bar, including things like DOOM, so I’m trying to understand how custom development currently works.

I checked the official documentation, but so far I haven’t found a documented way to create and install my own apps or widgets.

Is there currently an SDK, API, JavaScript runtime, experimental firmware or development branch available for this?

I’m particularly interested in building simple widgets that can fetch external data and display it on the bar - for example cryptocurrency prices, server monitoring/status, notifications, etc.

Are the custom apps we’re seeing currently built using a private/experimental firmware, or is there already a public development method that I’ve missed?

Any links to documentation, repositories, examples, or a basic “Hello World” app would be really helpful.

Feature Request: Display Cryptocurrency Prices (e.g. Bitcoin) on the BUSY Bar

I have a feature request that I think would fit the BUSY Bar really well.

It would be great if the desktop application could display the current price of a cryptocurrency, for example Bitcoin, directly on the BUSY Bar.

My idea is to keep it simple:

  • Enter a CoinGecko Coin ID (e.g. bitcoinethereummonero, etc.).
  • Select the fiat currency (USD, EUR, GBP, etc.).
  • The desktop application periodically fetches the price from the CoinGecko API and updates the BUSY Bar.

For example:

BTC $60,542

or

BTC €55,234

Using the CoinGecko Coin ID makes it flexible enough to support thousands of cryptocurrencies without maintaining a custom list.

I think this would be useful for people who monitor crypto markets throughout the day without needing another widget or application.

Would anyone else find this useful?

Feature Request: Start/Stop Time Tracking (Clockify, Jira, etc.)

One feature that would significantly improve my daily workflow is the ability to start and stop time tracking directly from the app.

For example:

  • Start/Stop a Clockify timer.
  • Support other popular time tracking services.
  • Even better: native Jira integration, allowing work logs to be started, stopped, and attached to the current issue.

A typical workflow could look like this:

  • Select or paste a Jira issue.
  • Press Start when beginning work.
  • Press Stop when finished.
  • The time is automatically logged to Jira (or Clockify).

This would eliminate constant context switching between development tools and time tracking software.

If an integration platform is preferred instead of supporting every service individually, something like Zapier, Make, or a plugin/API system could also work.

For developers who need to track every hour, this would be a huge productivity improvement.

Does anyone else use Clockify, Jira, Toggl, Harvest, or similar tools and would find this useful?

Premium-priced BUSY Bar arrived with adhesive residue all over the screen

I recorded the entire unboxing because this adhesive issue has already been reported by other customers. The device was brand new and the residue was present immediately after removing the protective film. This video documents the condition straight out of the box.
