Ironsworn and DnD: Castle Caldwell and Beyond

After a long, long time, I completed the first module in the "In Search of Adventure" campaign. There's still one more conflict to resolve before moving on to the next one. Adding something to the treasure trove as a reward for the cleared site wouldn't hurt either. During play, I used Sundered Isles and mixed in some oracles from the newest Lodestar.

I adapter the module by extracting what I thought were the most interesting parts, then during expedition I picked locations and encounters that felt most appropriate from the list. Same for enemies, I used tables prepared beforehand. It turned out that the site was infested mostly by kobolds. Created a party from some random traders camping inside the castle that I'm sure I'll use again later. Found an artifact that I bet will reappear sometime later. While there's still plenty of unused content, completing the module felt very satisfying and fulfilling, and even if I decided to run it again, it wouldn't feel like just replaying the same thing, Ironsworn makes every run a unique experience.

I kept everything pretty short and included all moves and rolls, if you'd like, you can read it here: https://rockpaperstory.com/blog/dnd-in-search-of-adventure/

Soloing Castle Caldwell and Beyond

In this day and age, it's hard for me to find the time to commit to and play in an organized group, and finding players for older modules is another challenge on its own (or any players at all in my location). So instead, I decided to play through the module solo.

I extracted what I thought were the most interesting parts of the module and improvised. Encountered few monsters, created a party from the traders camping inside the castle, determined that it was mostly infested by kobolds, and finally found an artifact inside the castle's tomb that I'll use in next modules.

While there's still plenty of content to explore, this run was incredibly fun and satisfying. And I was able to make some cool memorable photos from the campaign, so here you go, hope you like it.

Update: changed the post's title, guess I'm not that young anymore.

Kobold siege

I wanted to have some creative fun recently and came up with the idea of rolling some random oracles and constructing a scene from the results.

I rolled a "quest": Uphold Fortified Apparition, and the first thing I thought of was some kind of siege. So here's a kobold shaman of a once-defeated tribe, back for vengeance, with its fallen companions risen from the dead.
