First time yosimite trip with kids!
My husband, kids (4, 6), and I want to plan a trip to beautiful Yosimite National Park. We are flying into Sacramento and have a 2 week timeline. We can't decide how we should travel around and stay. Should we do a rental and a lodge or a camper van? We have travelled in a camper van through the Olympic peninsula and through Mt. Rainier last year and we enjoyed it. We will be going in late April this time. How truly limited would we be if we went the camper van route again? Your personal thoughts on staying inside of the park (avoiding long lines and available parking spots is a bonus) and renting a car instead? Should we spend the full 2 weeks inside Yosimite or maybe split it up for some time to view cool spots outside of the park? I personally think the Gold Country looked really neat. We enjoy history too! Please mention some super cool kid friendly places. We are moderate hikers, kids are as well. Give us your best family friendly insiders! Thanks!!
Edit: sorry, I don't think I worded this correctly.. lol we are spending 2 days in Sacramento to adjust to time change and whatnot. And then again 2 days at the end of our trip to get back into the zone before heading home. So we will have roughly 10 days to explore. We are looking to include Yosimite into the trip, possibly staying within the park (like at the cabins or lodge, acting as a Basecamp to go back to) but want to explore outside the park within those 10 days as well. I hope this clears things up.
