Salty Fisherman with custom clothes (week 3 progress)

Third week into whittling journey! (whittled every single day so far)

This is also my third "Salty Fisherman" based on the tutorial by Linker on YouTube.

I found a bunch of fisherman images and used that to sketch out some clothing ideas. My favourite was the blue dungarees, black jumper and orange gloves.

I struggled with the dungaree clips and beanie. But very happy with the carved out part when the dungarees meet the jumper at the waist. Also loving applying colour theory when painting them! 🥰🎨

Also love the zigzag hair on the back.

Moving onto scarecrows next. Looking forward to the challenge of carving straw texture.

1st & 2nd attempt at a salty fisherman (Linker tutorial)

I'm working up a wood carving skill tree I made for myself. Just finished the second of three "Salty Fisherman" guys from Linker on YouTube.

For the first row of the skill tree, I'm making three whittles per tutorial. The first one following it best I can, then the next two experimenting and having fun without looking at the video anymore.

I used clear resin to coat the hat, coat and wellie boots, then left everything else matte, so it's just the rain clothes that're shiny.

Also did a blue and white striped shirt as that sterotypical fisherman outfit, and played around with complimentary colours.

This is so fun 🥰

First 2 weeks whittling!!

I've been whittling every night for the past two weeks and am loving the process so so much.

I'm following tutorials by Linker on YouTube. I make three of them per tutorial, only following the tutorial for the first one. Then I experiment with the next two.

My favourites are the third bear and the third raccoon. I like painting details and sealing with resin so theres a contrast between the matte wood and shiny resin.

I prefer whittles where the body is not fully painted, letting the prettiness of the wood show through.

Got a few more tutorials I want to work through to learn new techniques. Like picking the corn for learning a bit about surface texture.

Then will have a go at making my own designs.

Have loved scrolling through this thread and seeing what other people have created.
