Where to travel in September?

TL;DR: I’m starting a new job in October, so I’ve spontaneously got all of September off - starting in the second week of September I’m looking for a backpacking destination for about 3 weeks with a budget of €3,500-4,000 for my solo long-distance trip. Open to anything (ideally with good weather), just Japan, Indonesia and Thailand are off the table for now - over to you: what destinations outside of europe can you recommend (ideally from personal experience) - especially being as spontaneous as I am? :)

Hey everyone!

I’m starting a new job in October. Since the whole process took a bit longer than expected and on top of that a few lucky coincidences happened, I’ve spontaneously ended up with some extra money and all of September free.

I’d like to use this time for a solo (long-distance/outside of europe) trip, since I don’t know when I’ll next have both the necessary funds and that much free time at once. Now I’m looking for a destination starting in the second week of September for about 3 weeks.

A bit about me: I’m 25, will be traveling alone, and so far have done one long-distance trip - 2.5 weeks in Thailand, before it was unpleasantly cut short by Big C. 👀
I could see myself really enjoying backpacking - since I’m traveling solo, I’d also like a destination where it’s easy to meet people (though that shouldn’t really be a problem anywhere, right?). My budget is a max of €3,500-4,000 (give or take, but obviously less is fine too :D). Japan is high on my bucket list, but I want to save that for a trip together with my girlfriend.

At first I was thinking about the USA (especially New York), which is quite the opposite of my usual travel style, but has always been a dream of mine. Thinking it over, though, given my situation and age, I leaned toward using this opportunity for a backpacking trip instead, so I’ve drifted away from that idea a bit. At the same time, I keep reading that September is supposed to be perfect for California…

Otherwise Indonesia crossed my mind, but the earthquakes there are throwing a wrench in those plans. Colombia has also come to mind. Beyond that, I’d like relatively good weather and maybe a beach at some point. Other than that, I’m open to anything: any continent, any country, whether it’s hiking, nature, or city trips.

Maybe you have some suggestions and tips I haven’t thought of - I just want to experience something before it’s back to work.

Thanks a lot for your tips!
