Welp, I’m an idiot
Okay, as you read in the title, I admit to being an idiot. So I would really appreciate it if we could refrain from shitting on me or making some sort of snarky comment about my very spontaneous and uneducated purchase of a turntable.
Soooo-, now that I got that out of the way, I am currently turning to this thread in search of some advice and recommendations, pleaseeee be nice.
I am currently heavily depressed. My mom’s dying, I’m a single mom with three kids under 8 in my early 30s, I work in education in NYC (aka one of the toughest jobs ever), and I’m pretty sure the Earth is burning to the ground. I’ve been struggling a lot with addiction & depression, and I had this random idea today to attempt to make me feel better….
I purchased a turntable.
For backstory’s sake, I’ve owned three turntables in the past. My first one was a gift from my mom (which is what I think led to this purchase…), and it was lost after we lost our home years ago. I mean, like, teenager-level years ago. My next one was from Urban Outfitters, and then my final one was from Amazon (I know, I know… dumb). I have no knowledge of turntables. If you placed the best turntable on the market next to one that was a soft pink, cheaply made one, I’d probably choose the lesser one.
That being said, I purchased an Audio-Technica AT-LP70XBT-BZ (Silver/Black). Why this brand or model? I don’t know. It seemed in style with some of the DJs I love who use turntables & I felt like Urban Outfitters wasn’t the place to go this time around. Now, here’s where I fudged up, I did very little research (literally just relied on reviews) & I didn’t realize this turntable needs speakers!!!!

I ask you the professionals, what do you suggest?
- Do I keep it? If so, can you recommend some affordable, quality speakers?
- Should I return it? If so, can you recommend a turntable with quality built-in speakers?
