I need help with my weird situation.
70% VA rated.
So pretty much I just got a commercial driving job. I went to get my medical card and got flagged for needing a sleep study. My medical DOT card is valid till the 27th of October.
Went to my PCP and she helped me get a referral for a sleep study. The sleep center called me back and couldn't get me in till 21 September and that's just for a consult. In that time frame it's probably going to be about the 15th of October till I get a sleep study done possibly longer.
So my solution is just to pay out of pocket for a DOT approved at home sleep study. For the sake of argument let's just say it comes out positive (I have been observed gasping for air while sleeping) and I need a CPAP. The at home study price includes a prescription for a CPAP if I need one.
My main question is with the diagnosis from a doctor and a prescription, how would I go about getting the VA to pay for my CPAP so I can get an extension on my DOT medical card while I sleep in compliance with the treatment (they need 90 days to issue a 1 year) and I don't think they will give me any type of extension without at least showing the CPAP was ordered and I'm just waiting on it.
I go through the community care program as the VA is too far from me and I can't seem to find any answers. I can't really afford $1000 plus right now for a CPAP out of pocket especially while covering the sleep study myself because no one will help me get an at home study.
