[Cartier Santos Large] I think I might have found the “one”
After years of exploring the horological landscape and owning a wide variety of pieces from Rolex, Grand Seiko, Tudor, Omega, and countless other respected brands, I think I have finally found 'The One.' This specific watch might actually be the catalyst that turns me into a true One Watch Guy (OWG), a title I never thought I would genuinely claim or adhere to.
Let’s talk about the dial, because it deserves a dedicated mention. The deep green color is practically impossible to capture accurately on camera. No matter the lighting, the angle, or the lens, the photographs just do not do it justice. But in person, especially when it hits natural sunlight, it is without a doubt the most visually stunning and dynamic dial I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. The way the light plays with the metallic finish is simply mesmerizing and constantly keeps me staring at my wrist.
My only slight hesitation—and I want to be completely objective and transparent here—is the size. As you might notice, it wears quite generously on my wrist. The Cartier Santos in size Large is known for its flat, expansive case geometry, which gives it a massive visual footprint. While the lugs do strictly stay within the absolute boundaries of my wrist and don’t physically overhang (despite what the classic wide-angle mobile phone camera distortion might suggest in the picture), it still feels incredibly substantial compared to my previous daily wearers. However, I am really hoping that I will learn to fully appreciate this bolder, more commanding presence over time.
I genuinely believe that I have reached the absolute end of my collecting journey with this acquisition. I know, I have made this exact claim multiple times before, and my wife definitely doesn't believe me this time either (she rolled her eyes when I told her). But there is something uniquely satisfying about this specific model that makes me feel like the endless hunt is finally over.
