(MNRR) Applying to Asst Cond job as out of state applicant
I’m a certified passenger conductor in Massachusetts and have applied several times over the years for assistant conductor with MNRR and have been rejected each time. I currently have over 10 years on with my railroad, FRA conductor cert, excellent work history with no safety rules violations.
I’m wondering what I can do to make myself a more attractive applicant? I wonder if the big stumbling block is when they see that I’m located in MA—not sure how to convey on the application that I’d be willing to move to CT/NY area if hired. I also wonder if my having prior RR experience is a negative—as in do they generally prefer folks off the street they can train their way? Last, does MNRR hire conductors from other railroads to become engineers? I haven’t applied to engine school with them but if they do I’d put my name in for that job as well.
