I'm so happy.
I grew up in Austin eating primarily Hill Country Fare (poor family whooooo) and I have been missing HEB so damn bad ever since life took me up to DFW. The Mid-Cities location is 5 minutes from me and I attended the grand opening today. It felt like home. It's big, it's beautiful, it's well-stocked, and despite the store being filled with an absolutely BONKERS amount of people, my experience wasn't affected at all. I was honestly kind of shocked that there wasn't someone in an HEBuddy mascot costume, but the 180-pound fish (wtf was that?) being paraded around was fun.
One thing: I am BEGGING whoever is in charge to stock the defictionalized Alamo Beer from King of the Hill. I asked an employee in the beer/wine section about it today and after looking it up on his phone, confirmed they didn't have it. He wasn't even sure what I was talking about at first.
HEB has been the only place to reliably get it and the next season of King of the Hill airs in exactly one month. It might not have the biggest consumer base, but I guarantee it will sell. Probably sell out. Multiple times. If you build it, they will come etc. Given that Arlen was based around an amalgam of several cities here in DFW, y'all are practically leaving money on the table not supplying it.
All that said, I'm so looking forward to never having to set foot in the Wal-Mart across the street for groceries and medication ever again lmao get rekt bozo
