Market Profile / TPO Explained

Market Profile / TPO Explained

Market Profile can look complicated at first, but the basic idea is simple: it shows where price spent time during the session.

In this guide, I break down:

  1. What TPO actually means

  2. How TPO letters build the profile

  3. POC, VAH & VAL

  4. Common Market Profile shapes

  5. How to identify balance vs. directional days

  6. A simple way to start reading a profile

The goal is not to predict every move, but to understand where the market found value and how that value changed

Auction Market Theory Explained

Auction Market Theory is basically a way of understanding how price moves through an auction process between buyers and sellers. The market constantly searches for prices where participants are willing to do business. When price finds acceptance, it tends to buildvalue when that balance is disrupted, price can leave the range and enter discovery, searching for a new area of acceptance. This creates a repeating cycle of Balance → Imbalance → Discovery → New Balance. I also included Value Area, POC, HVN/LVN and Acceptance vs. Rejection to show how these concepts connect with Volume Profile. The goal isn’t to predict that price must react at a certain level, but to observe how the auction behaves around it

Failed Auction: When a Breakout Cannot Hold

failed auction happens when price breaks a key level but fails to hold beyond it and quickly returns back through the level. here the breakout is followed by rejection and a move lower while Delta and CVD provide additional orderflow context The key is to watch the break then rejection then follow through rather than treating the breakout itself as confirmation.

Understanding Iceberg Orders Without the Confusion

Iceberg orders are used by large traders to hide most of their order size while showing only a small visible portion in the order book. As the visible quantity gets filled it refreshes automatically making it harder to spot the true size behind the order. this infographic explains the basic concept, how traders suspect an iceberg order, how it differs from absorption and why hidden liquidity can cause price to repeatedly react at the same level. It's intended as a beginner friendly introduction so if you have additional insights or corrections I'd be happy to discuss them.

Exhaustion vs Absorption Explained | Two Order Flow Concepts Beginners Often Confuse

Many traders confuse exhaustion with absorption but they describe two different market behaviors.

Exhaustion: Aggressive buying or selling fades causing momentum to slow.

Absorption: Aggressive orders continue, but large passive (limit) orders absorb the pressure, preventing price from moving much.

This infographic is a simplified introduction to help beginners understand the difference. These concepts are observations, not trade signals, and should always be confirmed with market structure, footprint data, liquidity, and other order flow tools

Understanding Delta vs Volume in Order Flow

I created this infographic to explain the difference between Volume and Delta in a simple way for beginners

Delta helps identify which side was more aggressive while volume shows how much trading activity occurred Neither one predicts future price by itself they're best interpreted together with market context.

If you notice anything that could be explained more accurately I'd appreciate constructive feedback.

Absorption (Smart Money) Explained for Beginners

After covering Volume Profile, Volume Delta, CVD, and Footprint Charts, here's the next building block: Absorption.

Absorption happens when large traders absorb aggressive buying or selling without letting price move much. This often signals that buyers or sellers are losing control and can lead to a reversal.

CVD (Cumulative Volume Delta) Explained for Beginners | Gold (XAUUSD) Example

I made this CVD (Cumulative Volume Delta) beginner cheat sheet to explain the concept in a simple and visual way.

It covers Volume Delta vs CVD, positive/negative delta, CVD candle charts, bullish & bearish divergence and a Gold (XAUUSD) CFD example.

The main idea is that CVD helps estimate whether aggressive buying or selling pressure has been stronger over a selected period. It can be useful for spotting strength, weakness and divergence when combined with price action and market structure.

Hope this helps anyone learning CVD, order flow and volume analysis. Feel free to share your thoughts or corrections. 📈

XAUUSD Analysis | 24 July | Bearish Bias

My 4H outlook on Gold remains bearish.

🔴 Sell Zone: 4045–4055 (with confirmation)

🎯 Targets: 4025 → 4008 → 3990

❌ Invalidation: 4H close above 4065–4070 with positive Volume Delta & rising CVD.

Volume Delta and CVD both suggest sellers are still in control. Waiting for a retracement before looking for short opportunities.
