The concept of “paying your dues” is bs

I’m an LLPC, a recent ish grad and I hate this concept of “paying your dues” and “this is what you have to do when you have a limited license.” We spent X amount of time during an unpaid practicum and internship paying our dues. And since when did “paying your dues” mean I have to take on clients I don’t want to see and pay that is absurdly low. It feels very exploitative and maybe this is just my current job and not the field as a whole. But regardless, is bs. Especially for the companies that advertise autonomy regarding choosing clients and saying yes/no to potential clients. Then turns out that’s not really the case. Being an LLPC shouldn’t mean we get paid significantly less and have to do more.

Cat possible exposure to lillies, reaching 72 hour mark, seeking advice

My cat who I was fostering then adopted almost 2 years ago possibly came into contact with lillies. I had some lillies in a bouquet that were on my kitchen table (dumb i know). But I live with my mom still and my cat stays upstairs as she’s terrified of the dogs and only goes downstairs if I go down in the middle of the night, she just follows me and follows me right back up. I didn’t think she’d ever go near it as she’s never down there. But i found what appeared to be cat litter near the vase and a lily was on the table with pollen all over. She appeared fine. I noticed this past Saturday when I got home and we think she either jumped up there Friday night or Saturday morning. Cause thats when the dogs were not down there. I took her to the ER saturday evening, she got under the skin fluids and bloodwork. Due to her appearing fine (no vomiting or anything) I opted for the “outpatient treatment” which is to recheck blood work every day for a couple days. The cost of treating her for toxicity even if we weren’t sure she came in contact was 5-7k. I went back the next day and they said it was a 6-8 hour wait and to come back in the morning if I didn’t want to wait. The vet, car rides, the cat carrier is all HIGHLY stressful for my cat. I decided since she was still fine and showing 0 symptoms that I’d take her to the regular vet by my house in the morning. I called this morning and soonest they could get her in was 6pm. By this point we have reached the 72 hour mark or just about. They took her blood but did NOT do in house labs which i was shocked by. That was the whole reason I went. To see if her kidney levels changed at all and leave with an answer. Not sure if cause it was the 72 hour mark already they saw no reason to but basically said they’ll have the results tomorrow or the next day. Theoretically if my cat did eat the lily then she’d be dead by then I assume? I’m starting to feel super stressed at the whole thing. I’ve in total spend a good $700-$800 at this point. I’m regretting not taking her back to the ER today to have the in house lab done so I know for sure. She still shows no symptoms, drinking like normal, urinating like normal. I feel it’s safe to say she’s okay but what if me not just paying another $150 with another trip to the ER is what causes her death? Any experience or advice is welcome and appreciated thank you!

Loryna & acne experience?

Curious if this has happened to anyone else before and what you did about it. I got on Loryna birth control for my acne in 2018, it worked so well as I then had clear skin for about 5 years, RARELY getting a breakout and definitely didn’t have cystic acne anymore. I’m still on this birth control as I love it, however since about 2023 my acne came back and I’m still breaking out. No where near as bad as before Loryna but bad enough and I don’t know why a birth control would clear my acne for 5 years to just stop?? Anyone with experience with this??

Psych: What did you do with your PhD? Any regrets?

In the U.S. I recently graduated with my masters in clinical mental health counseling. I learned pretty quickly that I don’t particularly love doing talk therapy. I’ve always considered going to get my doctorate but frankly have no idea what to get/my options and what people do with them. Just seeking some real life scenarios of people who ended up getting their PhD (or PsyD) what it’s in and what your job is now that you have it? Any regrets/things you’d do differently?
