A lot of people have messaged us saying they can’t start a chat because the other person’s chats are turned off. If you’re posting and actually want someone to be able to message you, please make sure chat requests are enabled.

On the Reddit mobile app (iOS & Android)

1. Tap your avatar (profile picture)
2. Tap the hamburger menu (three lines) in the top right
3. Tap Settings
4. Tap your username under Account Settings
5. Scroll down to Safety → Chat and messaging permissions
6. Under Chat Requests, select Allow chat requests from
7. Choose Everyone (or Accounts older than 30 days if you prefer)

Bonus tip: While you’re in Settings → your username → Manage notifications, turn Chat messages and Chat requests to All on so you actually see when someone reaches out.

That’s it. Now people can actually slide into your DMs instead of just staring at your post.
