Shift knob update: first knobs shipped, new batch inbound

Quick update on the shift knob. The first production run came back with a finish that wasn’t up to snuff, so most of it went back to the shop.

The few that made it through QC have already shipped to everyone who reached out directly or filled out the early access form.

A new batch is due in about two weeks. The final few from this run are available at protomotoco and I’ll post again when the new batch lands.

While I was waiting on the knobs, I made something else: outboard shift paddles for the ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module. They’re laser-cut aluminum with a textured black powdercoat, hand-finished, and they mount with the included hardware or your existing Fanatec bolts.

Thanks for the patience, and for all the feedback that got this thing here.

Beta feedback and shift knob production

I wanted to give the r/Fanatec crew a quick update on the SQ V1.5 shiftknob.

First off, thanks again to everyone who threw their name into the hat to test out the shift knob. I received some amazing feedback and based on the responses, I’ve made a few changes to the final design.

To begin with, as much as I love the slightly smaller diameter of the original NSX shifter, the overwhelming response was that it was just a bit too small for most people’s tastes. After measuring a half-dozen different shift knobs, I found that nearly every major OEM uses a shift knob that’s 2-inches wide, or around 50mm. The original was around 47.4mm. Apparently a few millimeters does make a difference.

The second most noted comment was the depth. Nearly everyone loved the height of the shift knob when driving an H-pattern, but a few people were looking for something a bit taller, primarily when using sequential mode. Rather than mess with the overall geometry, I came up with a solution that I’ve been testing for the past two weeks. When the knob ships, it will include a M12x1.5 12mm-long set screw and an allen wrench. To increase the height of the knob, just screw in the set screw until it stops and then thread the knob on normally. There’s more than enough thread to keep the connection strong even when slamming up-shifts.

Finally, we had one tester that had a shifter shaft that’s .8mm wider than every other version we tested. Weird, but fixed.

All that said, production is underway! Once they get past quality control and I figure out final packaging, shipping should start around mid-September. And yes, I’m going to try to accommodate sales outside the U.S.

I’ll post another update here when sales begin, but if you want to register your interest now, head to our site and fill out the form for DROP001. No need to fill out all the information, but please include your country so I can start working on international shipping solutions.

And check the 2nd pic for a tease that should launch soon after the shift knob.

I made my own shift knob and I’m giving away the first batch

My ClubSport Shifter SQ V1.5 knob has been through a lot, so I started searching for a replacement with the right size/thread/geometry/weight.

They all sucked.

I have some industrial design experience, so I started prototyping and landed on something close to the Honda NSX-R shifter, but with a bit more width up top and a better pivot point.

I printed a handful of models, put them through my normal sim routine (backroads, rally, the rando AC server surfing) and sent the first batch to production.

A few weeks ago they landed: US-made CNC’d 6061 aluminum shift knobs that I’m hand-brushing individually.

If you’ve read this far, here’s where you come in.

Before I actually ask for people’s hard-earned cash for a chunk of well-loved aluminum, I need some beta-testers.

If you have a FANATEC SHIFTER SQ V1.5 AND are BASED IN THE US (sorry, shipping), send me a DM and you’ll be put into a lottery to receive a knob. If you’re selected, I’ll DM you to get a shipping address. If all goes according to plan, these should start shipping out within the next two weeks.

BIG IMPORTANT NOTE: This first batch is NOT representative of what I plan to finally ship. These are BARE aluminum, so they scratch easily and suck in fingerprints. I’m sourcing a clear anodization that will hold up over time, but I wanted to get this initial batch out for the community’s first impressions.

I have 18 shift knobs exclusively for the r/Fanatec crew, as this sub has been amazing over the last decade I’ve been lurking and problem-solving. All I ask is that you use the hell out of it, let me know how you like it and what you’d change, and, please, don’t sell it to anyone.

I’ll close out DM submissions on Sunday, 6/14/2026 at 11:59PM PST and let the lottery winners know early next week.

For those of you outside the U.S. and/or that didn’t make this drop, I’m in the process of sorting my next batch and will open up a separate thread with pricing and shipping info if I get a good response.

Thanks again for being an awesome sub and can’t wait to hear what you think.

EDIT/UPDATE: Thanks for the amazing feedback! I'm going to cut off submissions on Saturday, 6/13/2026 at 11:59AM PDT. I have over 100 requests and would like to get addresses on Sunday so I can get shipping sorted ASAP. Thanks again!
