Vaccine for regular visitors of new born - Aus
Based in Australia, 38 weeks pregnant and getting anxious about OB advice related to vaccine for visitors. My partner and I have taken all recommended vaccines- flu, RSV and whooping cough. We also have my parents from overseas living with us and my brother and SIL, who would be regularly visiting us and the newborn. When we had enquired with our OB about vaccine for them, his recommendation was there is no need for visitors (even grandparents who will be living with us) to take any vaccines as I have taken all the vaccines which sufficiently protects the baby and there’s no actual advantage of cocooning the baby by asking people around us to get the vaccine. So we didn’t ask them to get vaccine.
Now I’m panicking especially about my brother and SIL not getting the vaccines. The grandparents are more or less cocooned at home with minimal activities/ going out of home. However brother and SIL have full time jobs so obviously are out a lot more and use public transport and it’s winter here so it’s flu season out there too! They will be happy to take the shot but I don’t know if there’s enough time for the immunisation to fully kick in now too.
Please share research for effectiveness of vaccination for regular visitors actually protecting the new born and if cocooning as a strategy is effective?
Thank you!
