Received 3 quotes to replace plumbing manifold

Received 3 quotes to replace plumbing manifold

I originally received a quote from a large plumbing company to replace the plumbing manifold which has 5 leaking ports. They quoted $2,515 to replace the unit and it comes with a 1-year warranty. Tried reaching out to Viega (company that bought Vanguard) to ask about replacement parts but they said the whole unit needed to be replaced. So I called (2) other companies that were smaller, family owned plumbing businesses because I wanted some more quotes. The second company didn’t come out to do the estimate but they told me to send detailed pictures and they would send a quote. He said he only does copper manifolds with ball valves and quoted me $1,450 to fully replace the unit and it comes with a 1 year warranty. The third plumbing company came out and gave me a free estimate. I asked about the copper manifold but they said they don’t do those and would replace the whole unit with a Viega plastic manifold and quoted me $1,271 with a 2-year warranty. Price difference is not an issue but my question is do you think it’s worth doing the copper manifold? Since the plumber is building the copper manifold I’m a little worried that if any issues happen past the 1 year mark, it may be more of a headache and the Viega unit comes with a 10 year warranty on top of the plumbers’ 2 year warranty. Most say the Viega manifold will last 10 to 15 years as well. Is the copper manifold overkill or is it worth doing over the Viega unit?

Quoted $2,516 to replace Manifold

I had a plumber come out to give me an estimate because I have had a very slow dripping leak from my manifold (its leaked at roughly the same rate for about 3 years since I bought the house and I’ve been putting it off since then). As you can tell I have very hard water, but he came out and quoted me $2,516 to replace the manifold. I asked if he could repair the 4 leaking ports in the picture but he said the unit (Vanguard) was discontinued and he would have to replace the whole thing. There is another manifold system made by Viega which is currently selling for about $300 at Home Depot. So then I asked if I bought the system myself and just had him install it, how much it would be and he quoted me $1,471 for strictly the labor. I’m not extremely handy but I’ve installed pex lines before and replaced toilets, so I thought about just doing it myself but I’m little worried since it’s the main water line and if anything goes wrong I’m not sure I want the liability. So my question is, do you think the $1,471 is still high and should I get a second opinion from a different plumber?

Quoted $680 for cleaning the Blower Motor

I just had my annual A/C and furnace inspection and the technician quoted me $680 to clean and wash the blower fan, here is the exact description from the invoice:
[Disassemble and Remove the Blower Motor Housing and
Assembly. Completely Clean the Blower Motor, Blower Wheel and Blower Assembly Compartment in the Furnace. Reassemble and Install blower assembly back into furnace/air handler. Check operational motor amps and wheel balance. Verify proper system operation] He said if I didn’t do it, it would severely impact the furnace and would likely wear out the parts. $680 just seems really high to me but is that a standard rate or should I get a second opinion? I’m in the Colorado Springs area.

Ak Shotgun

I have a couple of Arsenals and Zastavas and pump shotguns but I really want an AK shotgun to plink around with. Not really a shotgun guy but I have been watching Ak shotgun videos and now I want one. I don’t really want to spend over a grand on it, so I was looking at a KUSA KS-12 for about $800. My only concern is the company is no longer in business and if anything breaks, I feel like it’s going to pain to nearly impossible to get it fixed. I was also looking at a panzer arms Ak-12, I know it’s a Turkish shotgun and it’s obviously cheap but it’s got a milled receiver, has aftermarket parts and support, and It takes Saiga magazines and it’s on sale for about $300 bucks. Do you think it’s worth taking a risk if anything breaks and spending the extra money on the KS-12 or should I just get the cheap option to plink around with and take to the range? I’ll spend the money if it’s worth it but I also don’t want to get stuck with a $800 paperweight.
