[Hiring] Freelance Illustrator(s) for Published Political Book / Comic Art

I am looking to hire one or more artists to create illustrations for a political book focused on the negative effects of the market system on our emotional well-being, and why transitioning past a market system would enhance human well-being.

While it is not a traditional paneled comic book, it will function similarly to an illustrated book with powerful, full-page artwork appearing every few pages.

**Project Details:**

* **Style:** Traditional or digital art mimicking traditional inks or paints.

* **The "Problem" Section:** Illustrations capturing heavy themes like depression, alienation, feudalism, slavery, war, exploitation, subjugation, and environmental damage.

* **The "Solution" Section:** Illustrations capturing optimistic themes like futuristic sustainable cities, community, happiness, and freedom.

* **Scope:** I am considering either hiring one single artist to complete roughly 50 illustrations, OR sourcing standalone, pre-existing, or individual pieces from many different artists. I am leaning on sampling many diverse art styles which better reflects the community spirit of the book's theme.

IMPORTANT: This is a serious, non-fiction book analyzing political psychology. I am looking for raw, texture-driven, abstract, or editorial linework or moving painted images (think dark surrealism, architectural decay, or psychological tension). Do not reply with anime, manga, comic book style (unless in the Moebius style, or style used by artists working with Neil Gaiman or Alan Moore), or fantasy character concepts.

**Budget:**

Because this is for publication and I am paying out of my pocket and not making a profit off the book since it will be used to inspire readers into an idea, I am adhering to the commercial minimums. I am budgeting a minimum of $100 to $150+ USD per illustration (dependent on complexity/style), or a bulk project rate to be negotiated if a single artist takes on all 50 pieces. Such a cost must include your agreement that I may use that illustration in my book.

**How to Apply:**

Please comment on this thread with a link to your portfolio. *Note on CARA:* I recently joined Cara, but find its messaging framework highly restrictive if we don't mutually follow each other. Please ensure your portfolio link makes it easy to find an external contact point (like your website, email, or ArtStation).

You can also reach out to me directly at puppeteersongs at gmail dot then the first three letters of the word community. Please state your per-piece commercial rates in your email.

But first I really just want to see your work so I can get a sense of what you've done so far.
