Three identical EZONE 100, 3 tension setups (Poly Tour Pro/Spin): What strings and changes should I test next?
Hey everyone,
I've been using the Yonex EZONE 100 and ended up with three identical frames, so I decided to turn them into a little tension experiment. I color-coded each one with tape at the throat so I can tell them apart on court. All three are strung with Yonex Poly Tour (1.25 mm): Poly Tour Pro in the mains and Poly Tour Spin in the crosses, with only the tensions changing:
Blue tape: Mains 55 lbs / Crosses 53 lbs
Red tape: Mains 54 lbs / Crosses 52 lbs
Green tape: Mains 54 lbs / Crosses 54 lbs
So far, I've handled the 55/53 and 54/52 (blue/red) setup best. The 2 lb gap between mains and crosses felt very comfortable and gave me plenty of spin potential. The other were close, but didn't click as well for me.
About me: NTRP 4.5-5.0. Two-handed backhand, baseline player with a topspin-heavy game. I play almost exclusively on clay, about 4 times a week.
My goal with this post is to plan the next round of possible testing, so I'd love your suggestions:
- Strings: I'm looking for strings I can try out to see if I like them, so I'm open to anything worth testing. What would you try next in the mains and/or crosses to keep that comfort and spin? Would you stay in the polyester family or test something different (softer polys, multifilament or natural gut in the crosses, a different shape or gauge)?
- Tension: From 55/53, would you go lower, higher, or keep the 2 lb gap and shift both together? What step size makes a difference you can actually feel (1 lb, 2 lbs, more)?
- Gauge: Is it worth trying 1.20 mm or 1.30 mm in the same hybrid?
Thanks in advance!
