Last night after taking a shower I noticed I have this bump on my shin.

I’m worried because yesterday I spent all morning in a meeting in a room with colleagues that came from another country, they had slept in a hotel and had their luggage with them in the meeting room.

So by association my brain panicked thinking it can be a bed bug bite from a hitchhiker in their luggage that came from the hotel they stayed at.

Don’t feel any itchiness or discomfort.

Pic 1 & 2 are from last night (blistered).

Pic 3 is from today afternoon (not blistered anymore, just red spot).

Apologies for the long post beforehand.

Some back story:

I lived in a shared house with 2 more people and we dealt with an infestation for about 2 years. I don’t know if the pest control companies our landlord called were not good enough or what happened (he called about 3 different ones), but dealing with this was affecting me negatively and since after a few treatments in 2 years, the problem was still not solved, I just had to get out of there. So I searched all sites and forums on how to move safely, washed and dried all my clothing on high heat and double bagged everything else that can’t be washed/dried (which is a lot, mostly books and electronics).

I moved out in December 2024. It’s been a year and about 5 months since then.

So my question is, how long do bedbugs live for without a meal? Because I’ve read about 12 months but I’ve also read 2 years and I want to be sure, so I can know when I can start to take stuff out of bags and start to live a normal life with my stuff back. The reason why I am doing it like this is because I don’t have the necessary means (monetarily speaking) to deal with bedbugs, aside from stuff for passive monitoring.

@David I read on your FAQ it’s 12-18 months, does this info still stand?

Also, any tips for when taking stuff out of bags? Should I check every page of every book, for example? Should I inspect inside electronics? Sorry for the silly questions, this makes me very stressed.
