League hard freezing, lagging and high ping

Hi everyone,

I’ve been battling severe issues with League for about 3/4 of a year now. Before last autumn, the game ran perfectly. Then, it started hard freezing my entire laptop, forcing a manual hard restart. It started once a week, but by November, it was happening almost every game, making League completely unplayable.

Here is everything I have experienced, tested, and discovered so far:

  • Clean Windows Reinstall: Completely wiped and reinstalled Windows via a bootable USB. It helped for a brief moment, but the freezes returned.
  • RAM Upgrade (16GB to 32GB DDR4 3200MHz): I noticed my RAM usage was idle at 60-70% just with Discord open. After completely uninstalling Vanguard/League, idle RAM dropped to a healthy 40% (Loving the fact that Windows 11 takes 2GB of RAM). Upgrading to 32GB fixed the crashes for about 2 weeks, but now they are back.
  • BIOS Update: Updated to the latest available BIOS version for my laptop.
  • I also updated the drivers, added league to firewall exceptions according to that support copypaste they like to send people.
  • Low specs on league

The Technical Symptoms (From Event Viewer & Logs):

  1. Vanguard Kernel Memory Leak: During loading screens or mid-game, Vanguard completely floods the RAM, causing the vgm.exe process to crash with code 0xc0000409
  2. The GPU Disappearing: After a recent hard freeze, my dedicated NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti completely disappeared from the system. NVIDIA Control Panel threw an error saying "An NVIDIA graphics card was not detected", and it vanished from Device Manager. Even when the GPU is normally detected and working, the game still crashes. I found the exact crash log in Event Viewer: the faulting application is vgm.exe crashing with Exception code: 0xc0000005 (Access Violation), pointing to nvd3dumx.dll_unloaded as the faulting module.
  3. Recent Network Issues: On top of the micro-stutters (1-3 second screen freezes) and hard locks, my ping suddenly permanently spiked from a stable 14 ms to 35 ms since last week. Nothing changed on my network, no downloads are running.

My Specs:

  • Laptop: Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 (15ACH6)
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800H
  • GPU: Integrated AMD Radeon + Dedicated NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Laptop GPU
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4 SO-DIMM 3200MHz
  • OS: Windows 11 (fully updated)

I would greatly appreciate any help or tricks that could fix these issues.
Happy LP gains everyone!!
