What Cannabis Rescheduling Currently Means

We interviewed Paul Armentano, the Deputy Director at NORML, the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, and had him dive deep into what cannabis rescheduling currently means (and doesn't mean) for patients and other cannabis consumers.

Check out Paul's article here: What Cannabis Rescheduling Means

What's something about weed you had to figure out on your own?

My first thing was learning that you don't have to hold your hits in. Your body absorbs basically all the bioavailable THC within the first few milliseconds of inhaling, so holding it just means you're sitting there depriving yourself of oxygen for no reason. Took me embarrassingly long to learn that one.

Also, the CBD and THC “balance” thing. I spent a long time thinking I didn’t have the enzyme to metabolize THC in my digestive system. That’s how it was explained to me. But I’d never tried 1:1 edibles, only THC-only edibles. We’re talking thousands of mg of THC-only edibles in one sitting to still feel nothing. Then I tried a 15mg THC / 15mg CBD caramel,, and it absolutely floored me. CBD can balance THC for some, absolutely, but for others like me it seems to really emphasize it instead. Still annoying it took me so long to figure out though.

What’s yours?

Did stigma stop anyone else from exploring medical cannabis for way longer than it should have?

For years I associated medical cannabis with stereotypes more than actual wellness conversations.

Not because I had researched it deeply — mostly because of how it was talked about culturally growing up.

Now it feels like a lot more adults are openly talking about things like:

  • stress
  • sleep
  • burnout
  • PTSD
  • anxiety
  • recovery

without immediately dismissing cannabis as illegitimate.

Curious how many people here had a similar shift?

Was there a specific thing that changed your perspective:

  • research?
  • personal experience?
  • seeing someone else benefit?
  • legalization?
  • doctor conversations?

Genuinely interested because it feels like public perception has changed really quickly over the past few years.

What beginner questions about medical cannabis do people still feel weird asking?

It seems like a lot of people are curious about medical cannabis but still hesitant to ask basic questions publicly.

Stuff like:

  • “Do I have to get high?”
  • “Can anxiety/PTSD qualify?”
  • “How do people even start?”
  • “Is medical different from recreational?”
  • “How do you talk to family about it?”

Honestly feels like stigma is still a huge barrier for beginners.

We recently put together a resource hub trying to answer some of the more common beginner questions in a non-judgmental way:

But I’m curious:
What questions do you think beginners are still afraid to ask?

I organized the responses from my uplifting strains Reddit poll

A couple weeks ago I asked the lovely ents of r/trees what strains they personally found the most uplifting/mood-boosting (here's the post in question).

Got a bunch of thoughtful responses, so we turned the answers into a visual/article breakdown.

Interesting seeing which strains consistently came up across different people, and which flavors and terpenes dominate! Also shoutout to Sour Diesel, which was the #1 strain mentioned
