I got into the 1 year master's programme - MAGS!

I wanted to write this post as I was looking for similar posts when applying and once I had applied, and I did not find so many people posting about their application process, timeline and acceptance.

I applied at the end of March to the Masters in Advanced Global Studies. This meant I applied ahead of the second application deadline, being April 5th 2026. I heard back 30 min ago - being 18 May 2026 at 12:30ish CET. I am a non-European, however living in Europe and I applied to the Master's in Global Advanced Studies. I have over 7 years of work experience, but in fact it's work experience relating to law and so not directly related to the course programme, though I linked the two quite effectively (I believe) in my statement.

I have DREAMED for years about moving away from law and towards development related work - and this is my dream programme, but I had limited faith that I could make it work given I had gone so long in one direction (and obviously you fear you cannot make a change), and I also lacked the funds to pursue a European master's for years (finally in a position where it will not bankrupt me even as it will be hugely expensive).

For anyone interested, I spent a lot of time ensuring my statement reflected exactly what I wanted to convey to the admissions committee - I spent weeks and months (not hours or days) making it - I started my application in January and I just could not submit until I felt it was perfect, I tailored my CV precisely to the programme (even mentioning modules I thought would be particularly interesting to me within my CV, given my background or projects I had worked on) and I had strong references I believe, though of course I did not see these myself (the references are sent directly to referees and they answer a set of questions rather than providing a letter, as I understand it). I only provided 2 professional references - they allow you to provide many more (even academic), but I wanted to focus on quality over quantity, and it's been a long time since I was in uni so I did not feel that university professors could understand my motivation or trajectory in recent years.

I am not sure if this is of use to anyone but yes :)

have a great day, I literally cried getting the news!!!
