I never trust someone who claims to be a musician but can’t identify timbral / general musical choices. No matter what discipline you’re trained in, if you are unable to identify compositional styles and listen through that lens, you are not worth your salt. The only things he knows how to praise are the things that directly correlate to his discipline. Just straight up ignorance. Sorry for the rant I just honestly expect better than to hear a musician miss the mark so wilfully.

Just got my hands on one to see what it’s like. Sounds great. They’ve nailed the crunch and warmth of the portastudio.

However from my messing around so far it’s difficult to get a dynamic performance out of it. It doesn’t feel like there’s enough difference in crunch from regular strumming & finger picking compared to when I really dig in.

Is anyone else’s experience the same?

I’ve been trying to get some studio work for a while now. It just feels impossible to get a look in. I do a fair amount of live sound work but my passion has always been the studio. I have a decent amount of experience but it seems studios will only want to employ people off personal recommendation which is understandable given how much they’ve been squeezed by the industry and don’t want to take risks. I’ve just been feeling incredibly stuck and depressed by it all and not too sure what to do. I will keep handing in CVs of course but it always feels futile.
