Talking to Mike

I know a good amount of people have spoken to him briefly after shows. I was wondering if anybody In here has ever asked Mike a gear question? Like legit anything about any of the technicals of his music. I’m honestly just wondering how he has responded.
I know he hasn’t spoken at all about gear in any interviews (NOT COUNTING THE FRETTBOARD ONE) and I’m wondering if that’s a coincidence or if he just has smth against talking gear.

I can’t stop

I can’t stop listening to Mk.gee. I need a concert in Europe.

So, Mike, it would be nice to see you play live with your very talked-about gear. (:

Rylee and I - Rhythm section sound design?

I’ve been able to roughly emulate most of the tones on Two Star, but there are a few sounds I can’t figure out. Particularly the low rhythm (none-drum) section of Rylee and I.

Ive tried using pitched down idiophone samples in a multi sampler, automating the cutoff and other effects, messing with too many Korg presets, a CMI emulator, layering all of that, but still can’t get it.

Is the best bet to just go all in and get a Boss VG/SY/GM or Roland V8 and experiment?

Even then, I haven’t heard a preset that sounds like that so far. I assume it’s a mallet or or idiophone type preset pitched down. Any help would be amazkng

Guitar vids

Hey guys, old guitarist here and a bit late to discovering mk.gee but I love this guy and the way he approaches this instrument and am glad he has gained traction as he is absurdly talented. I was wondering if anyone has any videos of him just noodling on guitar? whether it’s old interviews or whatever I wanna hear him jam with no vocals on top

I’ve always hated this guy’s opinions but this video just shows how bitter he is

I never trust someone who claims to be a musician but can’t identify timbral / general musical choices. No matter what discipline you’re trained in, if you are unable to identify compositional styles and listen through that lens, you are not worth your salt. The only things he knows how to praise are the things that directly correlate to his discipline. Just straight up ignorance. Sorry for the rant I just honestly expect better than to hear a musician miss the mark so wilfully.

Penny for your thoughts on Dream Police lyrics

To me, Dream Police (particularly the live version from the bus) is immortal. I am so stoked I get to be alive at a time when new artistry comes along like Mk.gee.

My question is about what people think about these lyrics. I never understand this one line in particular. I understand that the album is under the overarching concept of Two Star and the Dream Police but I just find this lyric out of place.

I know people have also said a lot of lyrics are kind of filler as his medium is much more the instrumentals and engineering so maybe it doesn't mean anything.

2 Dozen Roses / Dream Cover

Was listening to this performance by Shenandoah and the guitar tuning / audio engineering really gave me some shades of Mike. It got me thinking about songs by other artists that I’d love to hear a “mikes version of” lmk some of your dream MkGee covers

dimeback in A standard

Took a stab at learning dimeback while tuned to A standard. This is just what my ear took away from the track itself, I’m sure it’s wrong in places.

Remix of ROCKMAN

I made this in 30 mins, drums are basic samples so won’t sound incredible. All guitar work was mine though. There’s a few errors with the song but I didn’t correct them when I was in creation stage, Let me know what you think though, I think it sounds pretty good hence I’m sharing it here. Credit mk.gee

Interested in turning a Squier jaguar into a baritone guitar

Has anyone done this and had luck doing it? I'm considering a classic vibe 70s squier. Will either be in B to B tuning or A to A. Will probably have 13/72s on it, and take the tremolo system out. Does anybody have insight on whether this will work, or has anyone done this themselves?
