Vintage Thomasville French Provincial Dresser: flip/restore ideas?
I bought this dresser 15 years ago and loved the color then, but have since grown quite tired of it. Originally I was thinking I’d do a light sanding all over then prime and paint it a more neutral color. However, after looking closer I’m wondering if a really pretty natural wood look might be hiding under all of this paint… 🤔 I’ve never flipped furniture so I’m the most beginner level you can get, but I am quite handy naturally and I’m a quick learner. I’d love some ideas on what to do with this piece? I’ve seen some posts on Etsy of this same or similar dresser post-flip going for $2-3k which is INSANE! I don’t even want to sell it I plan to keep it, I just want it to match my room/personality now that it’s 15 years later lol.
If I were to go the paint route: any color ideas? What are the necessary steps (sand or strip paint first? Sand only? Prime? Base and top coats?) idk anything.
Restore route: how would I even go about getting back to the bare bones to see the wood underneath and how to make it pretty again? Glossy or matte finish?
And the handles: I’m curious what the original finish was and how much of the darker color is built up rust? And what can I do to bring back the shine? Thanks in advance for any tips or feedback!!
