What to use as finish

Sanded this dresser down and rubbed mineral spirits on to get a look at it (assuming its cherry but im a newbie so what do I know) I want to keep its natural color for the most part but I dont like the super red and super light contrast. Wondering how I get a middle ground or at least close to one? I ordered the zinsser shellac after watching one video but idk if thats the best route

Previous Hardware holes

Long time Lurker but first time poster. Does anyone have any recommendations for getting ride of the outer holes the previous hardware left? I’m trying to leave the piece natural. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Found this on the curb yesterday

It was in a pile of garbage on the curb, so it was definitely free game. I did have to scrub it a lot, sanded it a little, and then stained and sealed it. I feel so, so lucky! I plan to keep it and use it to store our board games.

Reimagine mahogany armoire

So I bought this for $20 on FBM. It's big and solid mahogany and heavy. I found an inspection stamp Dec 21 1912. No other markings. The crotch mahogany veneer at the top of the pillers is about 3/16" thick.

I would love to get the doors apart to reglue the panels but I'm not sure that's a good idea.

It's missing 9 various sized drawers and the center door inside at the top is broken off and missing. I'm not sure I want to build that many drawers so I need to reimagine the piece. No I won't paint it but I need inspiration.

One possibility is a liquor cabinet with some pull out shelves and a few fixed shelves for glass ware. Maybe add led light strips to illuminate the inside.

What other uses can I repurpose this as?

Need project recommendations

Got these two Ethan Allen pieces for $100. Both in great condition. The dresser has an attached mirror that is not pictured. Which would look better; cleaning up and keeping as is or only updating the hardware and legs/trim?

Any input is appreciated!

Curved Bombe Chest

I had a heck of a time trying to add a transfer print onto a bombe chest. I actually chalk pained it first, and let is sit for a day. I applied the transfer, and rubbed it with the stick that comes in the Redesign tube, and the print just wouldn’t transfer. So I decided to try fiber paper / rice paper instead and it bubbled up so badly that I removed it.
How do you transfer a print onto the front of a bombe chest without ruining the design? Also, why did rice paper turn out so bad on this piece? Attached is a picture of the before. I am pretty certain that this is veneer.

Nice little charity shop find.

Found this in a charity shop yesterday for a fiver. Nice, solid and heavy as hell, it's 35 frigging kg! Arranged someone to collect it for us today and cracked on uncovering what was underneath. We found the makers plaque and it appears to have come from a local place who specialise in bespoke furniture. Fortunately, as you can see it was a pretty poor "up cycle" so a lot just scraped off with wallpaper scrapers 😂 but that eventually stopped so off out I went for an orbital sander.

As far as I can tell the people who butchered up cycled it they have slapped an all purpose primer on it without doing any sanding or anything then covering that with some Matt gray paint 🤷🏼‍♀️. It's going to take some work and my main goal at the moment is to strip it back before I decide on the finish but I do know I'm not going to cover it up with gloss or anything.

I'm really excited to see where this goes and will post updates if there is any interest 😁.

Fixing Mom’s Chair ~

My cat has made more little puncture marks in a beautiful chair of my moms than I realized. Is there any way to fix this so it isn’t noticeable and then I can keep him off it?

I refinished this Telephone/gossip table!

Found on FBMP for $10 and boy howdy, this was such a gem.

I did a light paint wash on the table top before sealing with Shellac, reupholstered the seat, and painted the whole thing a nice, light, mint green that matches some of the lighter leaves on the fabric. I think she's just to die for.

I'm particularly proud of this project. I have been refinishing/refurbishing and flipping for almost a year now and I finally feel like I'm getting good at it (and confident enough to actually post here!).

I’ve been flipping furniture for about 20 yrs. For some reason I can’t decide what I want to do to this piece. I also can’t find its name brand. I’ve done checkerboard/diamond pattern & pin stripes in the past. They always sell, but was thinking decoupage or stenciling??? Idk. I’d love suggestions.

Tips on saving and reinforcing this thing?

So, we had this (something like a shelf, but also a hanger), and today it broke. Finding something wooden these days is really hard, so I'm trying to repair and reinforce it, so it will support the weight of hangers with suits and clothes.

How hard would it be to put this coffee table on wheels?

This is a personal piece I’ve already flipped (years ago — it needs some love haha), but I’ve been curious about the idea of putting castor wheels on the legs.

The diameter of the very bottom piece of the legs is about 1”. The table is roughly 30” x 48” and weighs maybe 140lbs including items in drawers etc + maybe 20 lbs of occasionally added weight.

It’s tough to find castor wheels rated for this weight that have a feasible width between screws to fit the base of the legs, and I have considered office chair style wheels but feel like that may be risking the legs snapping.

Would consider replacing the legs with others that I can attach wheels to if it’s my best option - went to a ton of effort staining this piece & despite the paint chips am pretty dedicated to it haha. Thanks!

Victorian piano stool-before and after

As you can see this was pretty rough when I started, but I like a challenge and this definitely qualified.

I normally don't like to paint wood but I really didn't have much of a choice and it turned out pretty good, considering what I had to work with.

I had to rebuild the seat and make a cushion, I painted the feet but 2 of the glass balls are missing. I put them on opposing sides so it rocks back and forth a little. It's like a fidget stool!

Over all, I'm happy with how it turned out considering what I started with. I think I'm going to keep it.
